My body jolts awake to the alarm blaring from my phone. I can already tell today is going to be exhausting. After snoozing my alarm a few times, I finally get up.
I do my usual routine: brush teeth, skincare, hair, and makeup. I head to my closet and put on the outfit I chose yesterday. I button up my white collared shirt and slip into my dark grey wide-leg dress pants. I put on my matching dark grey vest, adjusting the edges of my shirt. I love how the vest gives a flare look to the collared shirt. I put on my dark red pointy heels to match my modern dark red leather briefcase. I slick my hair back into a ponytail but I make sure to pull two small strands to the front of my face. Whenever I dress up, I feel pretty and I need this boost to get through the day.
I grab my essentials and head out the door to my taxi.
The ride to my job takes about 20 mins, giving me some time to go over this weekend yet again. I plan the many things I need to do now that Eric and I have broken up. I pull out a notepad from my briefcase and jot down a few tasks.
I need to make sure to change my locks. When I moved into my apartment, he insisted on having a copy. I need to block any communication he can have with me. I do not put it past me to forget everything that happened and forgive him.
I finally get to the office building.
I pay and thank the driver and walked out the taxi. I take a deep breath and head in.
As soon as I get to my cubicle, I get right to work. I need to schedule a meeting with the design team on the new business we are marketing. We work from small businesses to big corporation. Our company, Tasteful Marketing, is not huge, but has become a trusted resource in the marketing world.
I make sure to send emails to all the heads of departments and set my calendar for the next two weeks.
I hear a knock and it's Bryan coming in.
"Hey honey, how are you?" Bryan asks with a chirping tone.
I'm sure Jessica did not reveal the events of this past weekend and I thank her for that. I love Bryan, but I don't feel like talking about it.
"Same old routine. How about you?" I answer, dodging questions about the weekend.
Bryan proceeded to spew out how eventful his weekend had been. From prepping for his new role in the company to spending hours with Sarah.
I can feel the happiness surrounding him. I've seen him flirt and have one-night stands, but never this lovey-dovey. Honestly, what is it with the love bug that everyone around me is finding their match? First Jessica now Bryan. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for them but that is not what I want to see at the moment.
We continued our conversation until Bryan was pulled into a meeting. I make sure to check out my work To-Do list swiftly.
Sooner than expected, I realized it was 5 pm. I finish packing up my stuff and start heading to the elevators. I quickly pop into Bryan's new office and say my goodbyes. He promises he'll give me a tour of his office as soon as he finishes organizing and decorating. I make it to the elevators, thankful it's not crowded. The doors open with a *ding* and I walk in. I press the star button and wait for my floor.
I look over my personal To-Do list and I realize none of these items I can get in nearby stores. I need to get a taxi. The doors open and I'm finally in the lobby. The echo in this place is insane and my heels seem so loud. I walk outside with my phone in my hand, dialing the taxi company.
While waiting outside, I see a familiar black and red Challenger pull in front of me. I see the window roll down and in front of me is Leon. He steps out of his car but doesn't turn it off. He closes his door and walks around the front of it, coming right to me. He's wearing loose-fitting blue jeans, a red knitted sweater vest, and no shirt underneath.
