Phuwin sat on the floor against his bedroom door, harshly wiping away the tears that had welled up. His emotions were a swirl of anger and heartbreak. He glanced at the clock and realized the guests would be arriving soon. His father’s words echoed in his mind, making his chest tighten. He couldn’t just sit here and let it happen."No, no, this can't happen, Phu. You have to do something!" he muttered to himself, pacing back and forth in his room. He was dressed casually, wearing an oversized white shirt that nearly hid the shorts underneath. Desperation and anxiety filled his movements.
“What should I do? I can’t just let this happen to me!” Phuwin stopped and, after a moment of panic, an idea struck him. "Maybe… I can jump from the balcony and run," he whispered, almost convincing himself. Without another thought, he darted towards the balcony, opening the door to check the height, but quickly came back to grab his phone.
Just as Phuwin was about to call Fourth, he felt something cold cover his nose and mouth. A sudden grip held him tight from behind. He struggled instantly, panic rising in his chest. With all his strength, he elbowed his attacker in the ribs. The man groaned, and Phuwin turned to see a man dressed in all black, wearing a mask.
"Who the hell—" Phuwin barely finished before the masked man lunged at him again, pinning his hands down. They both tumbled onto the bed, wrestling fiercely. The man tried to force the cloth back over Phuwin’s face, but Phuwin twisted and thrashed, trying to break free.
"Let me go!" Phuwin yelled, kicking and fighting with all his might, but the man was stronger. They struggled until the cloth finally covered Phuwin’s face again. He inhaled sharply, the familiar scent of anaesthesia clouding his senses. His strength faded as his vision blurred.
Before his eyes fully closed, Phuwin caught sight of the masked man’s eyes, glaring down at him with heavy breaths. "Such a feisty kitten, huh?" the man muttered under his breath.
Phuwin’s world went black.
The man, breathing heavily, finally stood up from the bed, adjusting his clothes. He looked down at Phuwin, now unconscious, sprawled on the bed. His white shirt was crumpled, slightly revealing his stomach, making the situation feel oddly intimate. The man quickly looked away, clearing his throat.
Through his earpiece, a voice crackled. “Pond, is the job done?”
Pond, now revealed as the masked man, sighed and picked up Phuwin’s limp body, hoisting him over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. "Yeah, Joe. Job’s done," he replied flatly. He carefully jumped from the balcony, landing silently in the shadows below. Moving quickly, he walked towards the car parked in the dark street.
Once inside the car, Pond laid Phuwin on the backseat, his chest rising and falling peacefully as he remained unconscious. Pond climbed into the passenger seat, where Joe was grinning at him.
Joe chuckled as he looked at Phuwin. “Wow, he looks so innocent. Must’ve been easy to kidnap him, huh?”
Pond rubbed his ribs, wincing slightly at the soreness. "Innocent? Don’t be fooled. He’s a feisty little kitten. That kid’s got a hell of a punch—elbowed me right in the ribs."
Joe looked at him, surprised, then burst into laughter. "He hit you? No way! Nobody dares to touch you, and this kid elbowed you? That’s a first!"
Pond just shook his head, staring out the window as Joe continued laughing. "Yeah, laugh it up. But don't underestimate him. He’s not just some easy catch."
Joe kept laughing, but Pond’s gaze lingered on the quiet streets as the car sped off into the night, Phuwin unconscious in the back.
As they drove through the quiet streets, Pond kept his eyes on the road, a frown creasing his forehead. He glanced at Joe in the driver’s seat, his confusion growing. “Aii, Joe, you’re taking the wrong route. Where are you going, huh?” Pond asked, suspicion in his voice.
Joe smiled but kept his eyes forward, unfazed. “I’m going the right way. Just sit still.”
Pond sat up straight, his frown deepening. “Aii, Joe, this is the way to my penthouse. Why the hell are we headed there? We’ve got this kid, and we need to put him in the basement. Why take us here?”
Joe let out an amused chuckle, shaking his head. “Pond, shut up. We’ve already got enough criminals in the basement, and Joong is already busy torturing them. There’s no room for this one.”
Pond blinked, still confused. “So what? We can’t just keep him at the penthouse. We should be taking him to the mansion.”
Joe shrugged. “It’s not that big of a deal, Pond. He’s just a kid, not some high-level target. And besides, it’s easier this way. Nobody knows where your penthouse is. It’s perfect for keeping him hidden.”
Pond sighed, knowing Joe had a point, but the situation still felt off. “Fine, whatever,” he muttered as Joe pulled into the parking garage of the sleek, high-rise building.
Joe laughed, parking the car and stretching out his arms. “See? Easy peasy. Now, get him inside.”
Pond opened his door, already stepping out when Joe called after him. “Oi, Pond! Where are you going? You’re just gonna leave him in the car?”
Pond turned, eyebrows raised. “You take him. You’re the one who decided to bring him here.”
Joe leaned back in his seat, crossing his arms lazily. “Nah, he’s your responsibility now. I’ve done the driving. I’m tired. You go pick him up and carry him inside.”
Pond glared at him, irritation flickering in his eyes. “You gotta be kidding me.”
Joe chuckled, not moving an inch. “Nope. Now go on, bring your kitten in.”
Pond groaned, rubbing his temple as a headache brewed. “You’re unbelievable.” He walked around to the backseat, opening the door. With a resigned sigh, he picked up Phuwin again, hoisting his limp body over his shoulder.
Once inside the penthouse, Pond moved quickly through the luxurious space, heading towards the spare bedroom. He gently laid Phuwin on the bed, the younger man still unconscious, his chest rising and falling steadily. Pond took a moment to lock the windows, making sure there was no easy escape route.
As he turned to leave, his eyes fell on Phuwin again, this time taking in the soft rise of his chest, the way his messy hair framed his face. Pond stared for a moment longer than he should have, his thoughts tangled. Why do I keep looking at him? he thought to himself.
“Shit, Pond. Stop it. Don’t look at him again,” he muttered under his breath, shaking his head as if to clear it. He quickly covered Phuwin with a blanket, making sure he was secure.
With one last look, Pond left the room, locking the door behind him as he stepped out. He leaned against the door for a moment, rubbing his temples in frustration. “This kid’s gonna be more trouble than he’s worth,” he muttered to himself before walking away, leaving Phuwin locked in the room.
