Today is April 1st, 2015—the day we will attend Koudou Ikusei, Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School as students, and now we are in the midst of preparing for our departure to the island.
Rocking the school uniform, I stand in front of a mirror, tidying my waist-length, pale-blonde hair. I adjust my brown thigh-high socks and put on a brown hair clip, tying some of my hair into a bun on the left side. My green eyes reflect back at me in the mirror.
'Umu, I also look nice today!'
I grabbed the hem of my skirt and pulled it upward...
'My only complaint is the skirt is a little bit short for my taste.'
Just then, someone opened the door to my room. I quickly closed my skirt, nearly screaming from the shock, but I managed to hold it in.
'That scares me.'
I look at him, waiting for him to say something—probably something dumb.
"You sure you've got everything ready Rei?" He asks casually.
"Stop acting like my mom, I've already got everything ready" I continued. "And also..."
"Hm?" Did he genuinely not realize the implications of his actions, or was he just feigning ignorance?
"Next time, please knock on the door before entering someone's room, you almost caught me while I was changing." I scold him.
"Ah, sorry."
"You better be."
Grabbing my school bag, we moved to the entrance, preparing a goodbye to the current owner of the apartment.

"Are you sure you kids don't need a ride? I can take you there, you know."
"It's okay, Auntie. It's only a 10-minute walk to the nearest bus stop, so we'll be fine. We don't want to burden you any more than we already have. We've scouted the place before, so we know our way."
"If you insist, be careful on the roads, and don't be late, see you in 3 years!"
"We will! Thank you for taking care of us for a week!" we bow at her. "Let's go Mamoru."
"Right, let's go."
We waved at her, then descended to the lower floor and continued walking from the apartment around Tokyo to our destination.
"I haven't been to Tokyo often, except for big events like Comiket. The streets are always busy as ever, at least not as busy as Jingu-dori." I paused. "And now we have to stay in the school dorms. I know the brochure said there's plenty of entertainment on the artificial island for students, I just hope it's actually good."
"Right..."
"Oh, and by the way..."
Mamoru and I chatted as we continued to stride toward the nearest bus stop. Mamoru being Mamoru, is a man of few words, but he is a good listener and willing to listen to my random rambling about basically everything, a quality that I respect. His remarks can be a bit blunt at times, but that's just part of his straightforward nature.
When we stopped by the traffic light, he asked me something.
"Wait," Mamoru said as he looked at me.
"What is it Mamoru?"
"I never knew that you'd visited Tokyo before?" I tilted my head, why is he bringing up a topic that died a few minutes ago?
"Did I never tell you? Last summer, I went to Tokyo Big Sight with my friends from the circle."
