The first light of dawn broke over the Cloud Recesses, painting the sky in soft shades of pink and orange. Wei Wuxian woke to the sound of rustling leaves outside his window, the air crisp and cool, hinting at the promise of a new day. He stretched lazily, his mind still drifting in and out of dreams as he recalled the events of the previous day—the visions, the incense burner, and the ominous feelings they had stirred.

With a determined resolve, he pushed himself out of bed. Today would be a day of discovery, and he needed to be ready. As he prepared himself, thoughts of the unknown adventure ahead swirled in his mind, mingling with a mix of excitement and trepidation.

After a quick breakfast, he headed toward the courtyard, where Lan Wangji was already waiting, his posture tall and straight, a stark contrast to the lively energy of the morning. A group of disciples had gathered, including Lan Sizhui and Lan Jingyi, their faces a mixture of eagerness and anxiety.

“Morning!” Wei Wuxian greeted them cheerfully, trying to infuse some positivity into the air. “Ready for some adventure?”

Sizhui nodded enthusiastically. “We’ve gathered some supplies and strong cultivators from the sect. Everyone is excited!”

Lan Wangji’s gaze was steady, his expression unreadable, but Wei Wuxian could sense his underlying tension. “Let us go then,” he said, and the group began their journey toward the mountains, a mixture of anticipation and caution in their steps.

The path leading to the cave was familiar to Wei Wuxian, but this time it felt different—he could almost feel the weight of the air around them as if the forest was holding its breath. The chatter among the juniors faded as they neared the cave’s entrance, replaced by a heavy silence.

As they reached the mouth of the cave, Lan Wangji stepped forward, casting a wary glance inside. “Remember, we must stay together and be vigilant,” he instructed, his voice firm.

The group nodded, and with a shared sense of purpose, they entered the cave. The darkness enveloped them, the only light coming from their lanterns, casting flickering shadows on the damp stone walls. The air was cool and still, holding the scent of earth and mystery.

“Stay close,” Lan Wangji reminded, his eyes scanning the surroundings. Wei Wuxian felt a thrill run through him, the excitement of uncovering secrets mingling with a sense of foreboding.

As they ventured deeper, the echoes of their footsteps bounced off the cave walls, creating an eerie ambiance. Wei Wuxian couldn’t shake the feeling that they were being watched, but he brushed it aside, focusing instead on the adventure.

“Over there!” Sizhui exclaimed, pointing ahead. The golden incense burner sat in the center of a small chamber, glowing softly in the lantern light, untouched since they had last seen it.

Wei Wuxian stepped forward, a sense of awe washing over him. “It’s just as beautiful as I remember.”

Lan Wangji moved closer to the burner, his expression serious. “We must be cautious. This is where the visions began.”

As they gathered around the burner, the energy in the air shifted, a palpable tension hanging over them. Lan Wangji placed a protective barrier around the group, his expression focused. “If we light it again, we must be prepared for anything.”

Wei Wuxian nodded, feeling a mixture of fear and excitement. “Let’s do it. If the visions are warnings, we need to know what they’re warning us about.”

With a deep breath, Wei Wuxian reached into his robes and pulled out another bundle of incense, the sweet scent wafting through the air as he lit it. He placed it inside the burner, and as the smoke began to rise, the cave filled with a swirling mist.
