The Swamp

I opened my eyes to the annoying sound of my alarm clock. I'm so tired but we have class outside today, so I'm really excited.

I tried not to yawn as we all stood gathered in the Black-Mud Swamp for our Magic of Nature class.

"Welcome class, to Black-Mud Swamp, and to... to.. AH-CHOO! R-r-right, as you can sneeze, I mean, as you can see, I'm slightly allergic to the sap from the Igglethord vine. Now, this is your first field exercise for the Magic of Nature."

"How are we supposed to take him seriously when he is so clumsy."

"I'm in the wrong class, I'm from an urban realm." one of my classmates said in a whining tone

"A well-rounded education is what Alfea is all about Dahlia."

"So, as I was saying, today's exercise will be rather difficult."

"Professor Palladium, a mosquito just bit me!"

"Well, we are in a swamp, and it's just a mosquito. It's no big deal."

"But look where it got me!"

She lifts one side of her shorts. Professor Palladium, obviously nervous, backs away

"Poor professor. They shouldn't give him such a hard time." I say feeling bad for him

"If he were more confident, he'd get more respect." Stella said. Well she's not wrong but still

"Now, this field exercise is designed to test your natural ability to listen to the always present voice of nature. Each group must navigate through Black-Mud Swamp and find the crystal clearing, and here's the catch, you may not use any magic. Only the voice of nature will be your guide, and remember, it's not enough to hear the voice, you must listen to it as well."

Professor Palladium then disappears before anyone can complain.

"No reason to stand around and waste time, let's start looking." Flora seems very excited.

"Right, this is so much better than sitting in class." I mean in Zephyros Nature is a pretty big part of life.

We all start walking and getting into the swamp water.

"Ohh, this place is... EW! Something's crawling up my leg!" Stella squeaked

"What happened to: Mud does such wonders for my complexion?" Musa says mocking her

"I don't know if you realize it Musa, but we're knee-deep in what I would refer to as a problematic mud puddle. All right, you guys, take cover! I'll handle it." Tecna says while her hands begin to sparkle

"No, Tecna, don't! We have to listen to nature. " I say to her

"I smell something, what is it?" It smells really bad, sort of like old socks. So I cover my nose with my hands

"He said listen, not smell."

"Smells like..."

"Smells like gas! Let's get out of here."

We all run for cover. Bloom picks up a stick.

"Let's see..."

She throws the stick and pops one of the bubbles. A cloud of gas shoots up, followed by several more bubbles popping and releasing more of the gas.

"A single spark and we'd have been toast, my friend." I say to Tecna

"Oh, yes, we took a big risk!"

" Especially you, Tecna. I would've sent you my dressmaker's bill."
