Taking a break from everything that's going on is important. Afterwards you can think clearly because you're better now. So while I wait for Lilly to finish investigating the place where Jake had marked us, I would go take a well-deserved break. It's her turn to investigate, she can't leave everything to the rest of us and do nothing.
I had decided to go by public transport instead of taking the car as well as take a break and use my legs a bit for when I got to the stop and walk a bit to the restaurant.
During the trip, I talked to Dan.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Dan
Did you listen to my advice about that hacker dude by the way?Macie
His name is JakeDan
I knowMacie
No, I didn't
Why is Jake a red flag for you?
He hasn't done anything wrongDan
That we know of at the moment
And I can't stand guys like himMacie
And my words of reassurance to him are of no use?Dan
He could be lying to you, using you, or even taking advantage of you being a good girl
Besides
I can't just stand by and watch when there's a damsel in distressMacie
Thanks for your concern Dan, I appreciate it
But don't worry, I'm fine with Jake, he's not the guy you think he isDan
Wait, wait
Have you ever met him? Do you know where he lives?Macie
No
I was just referring to the chat conversations I've had with himDan
Chat conversations...
There it is
How can you trust someone you've never met
Who knows where he is and what he's doing
Be careful little detective, trust my words
------------------------------------------------------------------------------I remember telling Jake that everyone was trying to turn me against him, but that because I had been by his side I knew that what everyone was saying wasn't possible. Dan, like Lilly, tries to make me believe that Jake is somehow guilty.
Still, I would have trusted Jake if I hadn't met him. Every time we talked there was something sad behind all his mystery and now that I know the reason why he didn't want to get so close to me, I just hope that everything gets better between us from now on.
When I got to the restaurant, Lian was waiting for me outside with her phone in her hand. I was a little worried, since she was supposed to be sitting, not standing.
"Hi Lian," I hug my friend and she hugs me back. "Everything okay?"
"Hi Macie," she pulls away and moves her phone, "yeah, it's just that I sent a message to Brian, " Well, I didn't have to start the subject, "he had to leave again, he was called to work."
"So what? Did something happen?" We entered the restaurant and recognizing Lian, they escorted us to the table, but not before leaving our coats in the cloakroom.
She shrugs, sitting down on the chair carefully.
"I really don't know, " she answers, putting her phone in her bag, "you know how much he doesn't give away anything about this "mission" of his, nor that I was secretly working with the guy they're after."
I try to pretend that I find it funny, because I know that he's doing it because of me. If he tells Lian something about his job now, maybe he thinks I can tell Jake and that's not good for him.
