Hi everyone! I apologize once again for not updating, but I hope you'll forgive me with this. This one-shot includes smut, so if you're not comfortable with that, feel free to exit the story. If you have any requests, please let me know!
___Lover knew she shouldn't be staring. She was straight. Very straight. The kind of straight you couldn't bend, even if you tried. But it was hard to hold onto that truth when Reputation was so... Reputation.
The group had gathered at their usual dive bar, dim lights casting long shadows across the pool table, the thrum of low conversations mixing with the crack of pool balls and the sound of laughter echoing off the walls. Lover wasn't much of a pool player—she barely understood half the rules—but she tagged along, mostly for the company. And tonight, because of Reputation.
Reputation hovered nearby, leaning casually against the edge of the pool table, her sharp eyes tracking every shot with a natural precision. She hadn't played much tonight, content with watching the others, occasionally offering a sly comment or a raised brow when someone missed an easy shot. Lover had spent far too much time glancing at her, pretending she wasn't looking.
Focus, Lover, she reminded herself, tapping her fingers nervously against the wooden table next to her drink. She took a deep breath, shifting her attention to her friends, trying to engage in the small talk happening around her. But it was no use. There was something magnetic about the way Reputation moved, something graceful yet predatory, like a snake coiled and ready to strike. It was subtle, but Lover couldn't ignore it.
"I'm just gonna use the restroom," Reputation said suddenly, her voice low and smooth, slipping between conversations as easily as she moved. Her gaze flicked to Lover for a brief moment before she disappeared down the hallway, into the dimly lit back of the bar.
Lover let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. Her heart was beating faster than it should have been. She glanced around the table—everyone was distracted, chatting and laughing over their drinks. She could probably slip away unnoticed.
I'm just going to the bathroom. It's no big deal.
Sliding out of her seat, Lover made her way down the hallway, the muffled sounds of the bar growing quieter with each step. The air back here was cooler, somehow heavier, like she'd entered another world. She pressed her palms against the cool metal door of the bathroom, steadying herself.
Suddenly, a hand darted out from the shadows, grabbing her wrist.
Lover gasped, heart lurching in her chest, but before she could panic, a familiar voice spoke.
"Relax. It's just me."
Reputation's voice was a smirk all on its own, and when Lover looked up, she saw that very same expression on her face, framed by the dim glow of the hallway light. She was leaning casually against the wall, close enough that Lover could smell the faint scent of her cologne—something dark and rich, like the woods after rain.
"Jesus," Lover muttered, trying to pull her hand back. "You scared the hell out of me."
Reputation didn't let go. She didn't hold tight, but her grip was enough to keep Lover close. "What're you doing back here, huh? Thought you were having fun with the others."
"I—" Lover started, then paused, realizing how awkward the truth would sound. What was she supposed to say? I couldn't stop staring at you, so I followed you here. No, that wouldn't work. "I just... needed to use the bathroom. You know, like people do."
"Hmm." Reputation finally let go, but she didn't step back. Instead, she leaned in just a fraction, her eyes gleaming with a knowing look. "Sure, Lover. Just needed to 'use the bathroom.' That's what we're going with?"
