A/N quite a few curse words in this one my reason being that they are grown up and well if u know the show u'll understand the situation better
Maya's POV
As I walk down the street, I keep my eyes open, just in case. I'm thinking, "I don't know why I didn't tell Riley the truth. Maybe it was the fact that she left Lucas just to ask me if I was fine. I don't understand why, she had everything, but still, she makes time for me." As I walk up the steps to my house, I start to hear yelling. 'Oh god, he's here already,' I think. Gingerly opening the door, I'm greeted by my mother's angry voice. "Oh, and you think you can just come here after you fucked up your life AGAIN," she shouts at a man at least 2 feet tall, then her. "You don't understand, I-" a desperate voice gets cut off. "No, I understand perfectly. One bad thing happens and then you start all your shit up again, then leave. Don't you think one kid with emotionally damaged is enough? Do you really think Sarah needs that in her life?" (We don't know the name of his other kid, so I'm just using Sarah, who is Sabrina Carpenter's (Maya's actor) real sister, as her stepsister here). 'My mother thinks I'm emotionally damaged? Really... ok, yeah, I guess I can see that,' I think, wondering if I should reveal myself.
"Leave Sarah out of this," the man stated defensively. "Oh, would you rather we talk about all the crap you told me about Maya?" My eyes widened. I thought my father loved me. What did she mean, crap? My father didn't reply. "Oh, you don't remember the night you called her a broken fucked up kid, do you?" my mother sneered. My eyes widened. Had he really said that? I could see my father's head dip. "Look, I—" I wasn't going to let him talk his way out of that comment. I was mad now. "Who are you calling a broken, fucked up kid?" I growled, stepping next to my mother. Both their eyes widened. "Maya?" they said in shocked unison. I rolled my eyes before turning on my father. "What the heck did you do now?" I demanded, ignoring my mother's request for me to go to my room
"I-I-uh," he started, a look of defeat in his eyes. "I know exactly why, you got yourself drunk and ran off, didn't you?" I scowled. He averted his gaze even more. "You have no right to leave us and then just waltz into our lives the second it gets tough. Man up!" I shouted, earning a gasp from both my parents. "Maya, Penelope, Hunter, go to your room and let the grown-ups talk," my mother said, raising her voice. "Hunter?" my father asked. I glared at him. "Maybe you can't get your life together, but we can," I stated before storming my way up and slamming my door.
Kate's POV (Maya's mom)
"So... you got married," Kermit said softly. "Yeah, I did," I whispered, though Shawn, my month-long husband, was on a business trip for the next month. "Kermit, you have to go. Go to your family. Don't do to Sarah what you did to Maya," I said calmly. No kid should have to go through that. "I-I can't," he mumbled. "Why not?" I asked, growing suspicious. "She's the one who told me to leave," he revealed, stumbling over his words.
"Is that supposed to make me feel bad for you?" I asked, unconcerned. He sighed. "No, I guess not. Before I, uh, go, tell me something," he whispered softly. I raised my eyebrow. "Is he good to you?" he asked in a pained voice. I glared at him. "He's done more for me and Maya than you've ever done," I stated. He nodded wordlessly, leaving. I knew he would be back, even if he didn't remember it in the morning. We only delayed the inevitable.
