A massive wall of ice stretched forth in the mountains.
A lone figure in black looked so incredibly small among the vast landscape, but he was resisting against one of mother nature's most vicious attacks.
The wall built up and lengthened under his hands as he flew forward, and people that followed him stayed behind one by one at weak spots to support it with their power.
The lava flowed along the ice wall, leaving a trail of black, rocky formations.
Ali flew in front of Jungkook. She explored the terrain and guided him toward the frozen lake.
Leading the lava to the lake sounded like a simple plan, but it was uncertain how much power was needed to build a wall of ice along the path. She was worried if Jungkook could make it all the way...
She looked back at him and saw no abnormalities in his face, so she continued forward.
When she approached the lake, Ali leaped up and summoned the power of five tails. With her hand clenched into a fist, she struck the frozen surface and broke open the ice. The wall followed right behind her. Lava flowed into the water, immediately boiling it.
Under the surface beyond their vision, the lake shook and quaked, disturbing mud that had laid in peace for thousands of years. Ji Lisa's seal also stirred.
The ice coffin bounced up and down within the turbulence before the lava engulfed her completely.
The surface of the lake that had been frozen for half a year melted in no time.
Ali jumped back onto the shore.
All along the icy wall were people standing guard, making sure it did not collapse.
And the jiaoren stood silently ten feet away from Ali. Right now, the entire Northlands looked aflame; only Jungkook breathed out mouthfuls of cold air. Frost gathered on his face and neck, looking rather frightening.
He had overextended himself...
Suddenly, he bent over in pain.
This proud jiaoren who had never bowed down to anything was no longer able to stand tall. He fell down onto one knee, and the body that was just frosting over turned into a burning red.
Ali did not know what was wrong with him and was about to go check when she heard people cry out in alarm.
The ice wall was affected when Jungkook fell. A piece above him fractured, and the fiery red lava poured through.
Jungkook was feeling himself shift between extreme hot and cold. The cold was from the overexertion of his demonic power, and the heat was from the lava burning Ji Lisa's body.
Ji Lisa could no longer feel anything. She would soon be completely taken away by heaven and earth and disappear. Perhaps becoming a drop of water, a grain of dust in the wind, or nothing at all...
He watched the lava pour down from above.
Come.
He had nothing to fear.
He used all of his strength to protect this northern city and did not turn into the Grand Master, who wanted to bury the entire world for the one he loved.
So...
If they were to meet again in the afterlife, he would be able to face Ji Lisa without shame.
But a woman suddenly appeared between him and the falling lava.
Black gas sprawled out and wrapped around them, cutting off the deadly fire. Her body was thin but strong, and nine tails swayed behind her.
The lava poured over them and swallowed them.
"Told you to run. I screamed so loud that my voice broke!" She fought to hold up her shield. Then she turned her head and faced him, her black eyes dotted with red. "Why didn't you hear a single word?!"
Looking at her face, Jungkook was completely stunned.
Ice blue eyes stared blankly at the person in front of him, full of disbelief.
Ali struggled to hold on, but the power of the lava had exceeded her imagination. Within a few moments, it had already burned a hole through her shield.
She felt a sharp pain in her chest and let out a grunt. The hand holding the shield began to tremble.
But she could not give up. He had done his best to save everyone and their city; she must do her best to save him...
Ali ignored the pain in her chest and poured all of her demonic power into the shield, then she cast a spell with her other hand using spiritual power. She no longer cared how the jiaoren might react upon seeing her use both sources of power.
She reached out and grabbed a hold of Jungkook's hand. When she touched him, she felt the sudden hot and cold temperature shift inside his body.
He must have exhausted all of his strength leading the wall along the path.
"I'm not sure if I can break us out; I can only try my best," she said to Jungkook. "Are you willing to put your life into my hand?"
Jungkook tightened his grip on her.
Suddenly, an image flashed in her mind. She was holding his hand just like now, and they jumped into a sinking pool of water inside a dark abyss.
Ali regained her focus and was about to cast a spell when the lava squeezed through a gap inside her black shield. Without even thinking about it, she took Jungkook into her arms and embraced him.
More disconnected images floated up into her mind. She saw his big, beautiful tail, him locked behind black iron bars, and his shadow printed onto a screen by candlelight. Although there were no connections, they were all images of Jungkook and her.
But what lingered in front of her eyes at the end was a moonlit night, on the top of a cliff. She plunged a sword into his chest, and her ruthless face was clearly reflected inside his blue eyes.
That sword felt as if it had stabbed Ali in the heart.
"Enemies," Ali whispered to herself as she shielded Jungkook from the searing lava. "We really were enemies..."
But this enemy...
Why did she not feel any hatred toward him?
Her eyes grew dark, and she prepared for the end.
It was just a pity that she could not remember everything...
When Jimin and his men chipped away layers of black rock and saw Jungkook below, he was in the middle of a ball of ice.
His hair had been tainted gray and covered the face of a woman lying inside his arms. But Jimin did not really care who she was. He just needed to see that Jungkook was okay.
People broke out in cheers as they saw their lord alive.
Jimin wanted to call him out, but Jungkook ignored him no matter how much he knocked on the ice. Finally, the monk could not stand it anymore and chopped onto the ice with a hand full of spiritual power. Jungkook looked up at him.
The world's most beautiful face was now covered in black soot.
And on that face were two white streaks of tear marks. Pearls littered the ground next to the woman, her neck also wearing one. The string was still half hidden by her collar, as if Jungkook had pulled it out to observe.
The ice melted into water, and Jimin heard his voice.
"It's her," he said. "She came back."
Jimin looked at the face of the woman inside Jungkook's arms.
It really was Ji Lisa.
