Chapter 24: Secrets Revealed
I woke up the next morning still wrapped in Adrian's arms, my body warm and relaxed from the night before. I felt different—lighter, happier. I couldn't stop smiling as I stretched out, my mind replaying every detail of last night. I hadn't felt this good in a long time, and it was clear on my face.
Of course, the first person to notice was Alyssa.
"Girl, what are you smiling about?" she teased the second she walked into the kitchen, her eyebrow arched, already knowing exactly why I was glowing.
I tried to play it off, but there was no hiding it. "What? I can't be in a good mood?"
Alyssa smirked, leaning against the counter with her coffee mug in hand. "Mhm. Good mood, huh? So, nothing to do with last night then?" Her voice was dripping with sarcasm, and I couldn't help but laugh.
"Okay, okay, fine! Last night was... amazing. Happy?" I blushed, grabbing a piece of toast and trying to distract myself, but Alyssa wasn't going to let it go that easily.
"Oh, I knew it. I saw that glow the moment you walked in. I told you that man was obsessed with you. He finally gave you the full treatment, huh?" She winked, her teasing making me laugh.
"Can we not make this about me right now?" I shot back, still blushing. "What about you? You've been acting a little too quiet lately. Spill."
Alyssa's smirk faltered just for a second, and I saw something flicker in her eyes—something she was trying to hide. "What do you mean? I'm fine. Just happy for you, that's all."
"Oh, no. Don't even try that," I said, narrowing my eyes. "You're hiding something."
Her smile turned sheepish, and she avoided my gaze, biting her lip. "Okay, fine. But you better not tell anyone."
I raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. "Spill it!"
"I've been seeing someone," she admitted, her voice dropping to a whisper, as if she was letting out some grand secret.
My jaw dropped. "What? Who? And why didn't you tell me sooner?"
Alyssa blushed, the same teasing glint she usually directed at me now reflecting back on herself. "I just... didn't want to make a big deal out of it. It's still new, and we're keeping it low-key. But... yeah, I've got a boyfriend."
I grinned, excited for her. "Look at you, sneaky! So, who's the mystery guy?"
She shook her head. "Not telling you that yet! You'll meet him soon enough."
"Wow, I can't believe this! I'm supposed to be your best friend, and you kept this from me?" I pretended to pout, but I was genuinely happy for her. Alyssa always gave me a hard time about my love life, so it was only fair I got to tease her about this.
That night, though, we found out just how serious her new relationship was.
Adrian and I were in the living room, cuddled up on the couch, deciding what movie to watch. The house was quiet, and we had just settled in with snacks when we heard it. A faint noise at first, but unmistakable—moans.
Adrian raised an eyebrow at me, and I tried not to burst into laughter.
"Is that...?" he asked, clearly amused.
I nodded, covering my mouth to stifle the giggles. "Yep. That's Alyssa."
We exchanged a glance, both of us trying to be mature about it, but when her moans got louder, we couldn't help but crack up. Adrian shook his head, laughing under his breath. "Guess we're not the only ones having fun around here."
I buried my face in his chest, giggling uncontrollably. "Oh my God, this is too much. She was teasing me all morning, and now look at her!"
"She'll regret that in the morning," Adrian joked, flipping on a movie to drown out the sound. We snuggled up on the couch, trying to focus on the movie, but every now and then, we'd hear another loud moan from Alyssa's room, and we'd start laughing all over again.
The next morning, Alyssa came into the kitchen looking a little too pleased with herself, and I knew she hadn't forgotten about last night. But before she could say anything, I shot her a knowing look.
"Good morning," I said, my voice dripping with fake innocence. "Sleep well?"
Adrian smirked behind his coffee mug, trying not to laugh.
Alyssa froze for a second, her eyes widening, but then she quickly recovered, pretending like she didn't hear me. "Yeah, slept fine. Why?"
"Oh, nothing," I said, biting my lip to stop myself from laughing. "Just thought I heard... something last night."
Alyssa turned bright red, realizing what I was getting at. "Oh my God, you didn't hear that, did you?"
"Oh, we definitely did," Adrian chimed in, unable to hide his grin. "Loud and clear."
Alyssa covered her face, groaning in embarrassment. "I'm never going to live this down, am I?"
"Nope," I teased, winking at her. "Not a chance."
We all burst out laughing, and even though I knew Alyssa would be mortified for days, I couldn't help but feel happy. Things felt normal again, like the three of us were finding our rhythm. Adrian and I had finally gotten back to that place we'd been missing, and Alyssa was happy too.
The teasing would never stop, but that was just part of the fun. And as I watched her squirm, I knew one thing for sure—I had the best friend and the most unexpected love in the world.
