Chapter 23: Rekindling the Fire
Time had a way of softening the edges of pain. Slowly, things between Adrian and me began to settle back into place, though the wounds weren't fully healed. It was like we were trying to rebuild something fragile, and we were both afraid of making a wrong move that could shatter it all over again.
But there was something else, something I could feel whenever we were near each other—Adrian missed me. Not just emotionally, but physically. His eyes lingered on me longer than usual, his hands brushing against mine whenever we were close. It was as if he didn't know how to reach out for what he craved. But I could sense it. I felt the same pull too, that hunger for the connection we used to share.
One night, after another quiet dinner together, something in the air shifted. There was a tension between us that neither of us spoke about, but it was palpable. Adrian had been distant, and I could tell it wasn't because he didn't want me. It was because he was trying to respect the space I needed, trying not to push too hard after everything that had happened.
I was in my room, staring out the window at the night sky, lost in my thoughts when I smelled something faint but unmistakable—candles. And then, there was a soft knock on the door.
I opened it to find Adrian standing there, a bottle of expensive liquor in his hand, the flicker of candlelight dancing behind him. The sight of him took my breath away—his usual calm demeanor was replaced by something raw, something hungry. He didn't say anything at first, just took my hand and led me toward the room we hadn't been in for what felt like an eternity.
As we walked inside, the warm glow of candles lit the space, casting a soft, intimate light. The air was thick with the scent of vanilla and something else, something that made my heart race. It felt like he had planned this, carefully, deliberately, like he was ready to claim back what we had lost.
I swallowed, trying to ignore the way my pulse quickened. "Adrian... what's all this?"
He didn't respond right away. Instead, he placed the bottle on the side table and turned to me, his eyes darker than usual, filled with an intensity that sent shivers down my spine.
"I missed you," he finally said, his voice low and gravelly. "I've been missing you for so long, Ma."
The way he said it—Ma—sent a jolt through me. It was the first time in weeks he had called me that, the name that had always felt so intimate between us. My heart skipped a beat, and something inside me melted. It wasn't just the name—it was everything. The look in his eyes, the way he stood there, waiting, as if asking permission to touch me again.
I bit my lip, taking a step closer. "I missed you too."
That was all it took. In an instant, his hands were on me, pulling me against him, his lips crashing into mine with a desperation we'd both been holding back. The kiss was hungry, needy, and before I knew it, he was leading me toward the bed, my legs weak with anticipation.
The soft glow of the candles made everything feel dreamlike, and as he laid me down, I couldn't help but gasp at the view—the city lights shimmering in the distance, the stars above us, and Adrian, hovering over me, his eyes devouring every inch of me.
I had missed this. I had missed him. Not just the physical touch, but the way he made me feel—like I was the only person in the world that mattered.
He undressed me slowly, savoring every moment, his fingers tracing lines down my skin, sending shivers through my body. I could see the way he was holding back, trying to be gentle, but I didn't want gentle. I wanted him. All of him.
"Adrian," I whispered, arching my back, pressing my body against his. "I need you."
That was all it took. The last bit of restraint he had snapped, and suddenly, we were lost in each other. His hands, his lips, every part of him claimed me like it was the first time all over again. But this time, it was different. It was deeper, more intense. The time apart, the tension, the emotions—it all came crashing together in this moment.
We moved together, our bodies finding that perfect rhythm, the kind that only comes when two people are truly connected. The heat between us built until it was overwhelming, our breaths coming in ragged gasps, our moans filling the room.
Every touch, every kiss was filled with the fire we had been holding back for so long. And as he pushed deeper into me, my body trembled with pleasure, my mind lost in the sensation of him filling me completely. I couldn't get enough. I didn't want it to stop.
His name left my lips in a soft moan, and I could feel the tension building in both of us, the edge drawing nearer with every thrust. I clung to him, my nails digging into his back as we reached that peak together, our bodies shuddering in unison as we came undone.
Afterward, we collapsed onto the bed, our skin slick with sweat, our breaths still heavy as we lay tangled together. I could feel his heart pounding against mine, the steady rise and fall of his chest as we came down from the high.
For a long time, we just lay there, wrapped up in each other, skin to skin. It felt so right, so perfect, like all the pain and confusion from before had melted away in that moment.
Just as I was about to drift off, his voice broke the silence.
"I love you, Ma," he whispered, his lips brushing against my temple.
I smiled softly, my heart swelling with warmth. He hadn't called me Ni. Not tonight. Tonight, I was his Ma again. And I realized, in that moment, that maybe—just maybe—we could make this work after all.
With that thought, I closed my eyes and let sleep take me, still wrapped in Adrian's arms.
