Amelia's POV
"Mom... tell me it is not true?" Ed stood up, moving directly towards Judge Agnes. He couldn't believe his mother could do such a thing. It was hard to fathom.
"Ed, they are accusing me..." Judge Agnes tried to defend herself, her voice trembling. "Why would I do such a cruel thing to my own son?"
"Judge Agnes, the truth is out. Don't deny it now. Detective Harries wouldn't lie about something this huge," I retorted, unable to hold back.
"Maybe you all paid him, including Anderson, to accuse me because he's guilty of killing Williams!" Judge Agnes shouted, her anger rising.
"Wow... I never knew you would stoop this low. Shame on you, sister. You're already caught. Admit you're guilty!" Mr. Anderson shot back.
"Quiet, please! Mom, tell us the truth... did you kill him?" Ed shouted and asked, his voice filled with desperation.
"Ed... why would I kill my own son?" she replied, her expression a mix of hurt and defiance.
"Because he is not your blood son..." Mr. John stood, delivering a shocking revelation.
"Yeah, right. That makes sense dad," Ed added, his confusion evident.
What? Williams isn't her biological son? The room fell silent, the air thick with disbelief.
"Ed, how did you—" Mrs. Agnes looked suprised.
"Overruled!....We'll take a recess for ten minutes. When we come back, we'll discuss this further," the courtroom deputy announced, slamming the gavel.
The deputies and Judge Agnes stepped out, likely to replace her before the case could continue. I wanted to go to Ed, but his father walked over, guiding him back to his chair. Ed was in shock, grappling with the truth. This revelation painted his mother as a murderer, and despite my urge to comfort him, I let Mr. John speak to him in private.
Mr. Anderson seemed pleased, a smirk on his face as he gathered with his family. Of course, he is proven that he is not guilty.
"Wow, I never thought the truth would come out like this, but I'm happy you're not guilty dear," Mrs. Anderson hugged him tightly.
"Wait, Mom... you knew Aunt Agnes killed him?" Ace asked, looking confused.
I stopped in my tracks as i was walking towards them.
"What? No! If I had known, your father wouldn't be in jail now!" Mrs. Anderson exclaimed, her eyes wide with panic.
"Then what truth are you talking about?" Mr. Anderson pressed.
She faltered, realizing her slip.
"Oh, Lawyer Amelia... thank you for helping Dad. You're a good person," Ember said, approaching me.
"Damn," I thought, forcing a smile. "Oh, no thanks. I was just doing my duty. The truth is out. That's what matters."
"If it weren't for you, Dad would have been found guilty," Ellon added.
"Yes, Mrs. Amelia, you owe us big time. You're a hardworking woman," Mr. Anderson chimed in.
"All rise!" the bailiff announced before I could respond, and I just nodded, returning to my seat.
"I think there's more to this," I whispered to Dan, who sat next to me.
"What do you mean? You think there's a twist?" Dan asked, raising an eyebrow.
I nodded, tension coursing through me as we prepared to resume.
"I had to be replaced because we believe the case has taken a turn. We need to understand more about the murder of Williams, who died four days ago. Until now, we had only one suspect: Mr. Anderson. But now, as we investigated more, we have another suspect: Mrs. Agnes. Let's continue with the case," the judge announced.
