I screamed for Hail as the shape shifter lunged at me, gripping my neck and slamming me into the ground. She dug her nails into to me, and to my horror I felt them sharpen and grow. They tore into my skin like daggers, and I realized it would be a matter of seconds before my trachea was in her claw. My writhing hands and legs were pinned down permanently by her strength, making my struggles unnoticeable to the monster on top of my fragile body.
So this is how I die.
I thought to myself.
Well shit.
And then my knight in shining armor swooped in and tore the beast off of me.
I scrambled away, and as I calmed down the pain staggeringly increased, and my regeneration wasn't there to save me. I gripped the worst side of my neck and held my hand there, somehow hoping to stop the blood relentlessly gushing out. The warm liquid ran over my trembling fingers as drops of red speckled my thigh. I had no memory of ever not healing myself and a wave of terror washed over me as I realized my vulnerability, and that I was blacking out. A blur of blue flashed by me as my vision tunneled into darkness.
