I was sprinting blindly. Anywhere. Nowhere. Hail was calling my name, trying to lure me back but I didn't listen. It wasn't Hail. I knew it wasn't Hail. Sweat was forming along my forehead, and my stomach churned in fear. A hand darted out of the blackness, ruthlessly clutching my arm. It's nails drew blood as it dragged me closer to it, oblivious to my struggles. It's hot breath trickled down my neck and chest as I whimpered, desperately searching for something to look at. And then there was someone. Inches away from me white eyes stared back, his lips curling into a menacing smile, revealing sharp teeth coated in saliva. His hand roughly grasped my face, piercing and scratching the top layer of my cheek with nails that were much too long. His thin face came closer until mine and his were side by side, and I could smell the stench of something rotting. And then he spoke, in a terrifying and raspy voice.
"You're smelling your little friends Amara."
He shoved me against a wall that wasn't there before, this time pinning my arms at my sides. My legs were paralyzed.
"Now that I know who you are, you will become my queen and birth me a child."
I trembled, pushing myself against the wall as far away from his looming face as possible. My Virtue was gone, and I was wheezing - struggling to breathe. His face was now centimeters away from mine, a crooked nose grazing my cheek. His hand slowly slid down my side. I screamed.
"Oh my love," he croaked, a single finger fondling my quivering lips. "They're all dead. You can't hear screams when you're dead."Quinn was violently shaking me awake. Hail and Slate burst into our room. I sat up panting in the darkness as Hail sat next to me. Quinn held my sweaty, shaking hand.
"Amara you're safe, you're okay. What happened?" Hail whispered, as Slate shared a concerned look with Quinn.
As the moon shone through the nearby window, Hail held my clammy face in his refreshingly cool hands.
"Amara..." He started softly, studying my features. "Your cheek is bleeding."
