By the time you arrived at the schoolyard you were out of breath, sweat almost pouring from your clothing and coat. Reaching for your side, you lean against the fence around the schoolyard before making your way further towards the entrance of the school building. Opening the door, yelling already welcomed you and you pushed through the exhaustion that had settled in your body. Other people held children back as you heard a crash in Shiro's classroom, parents muttering among themselves.
"Mom!" At his voice, your gaze flicked to Shiro who was held by his teacher. As your son ran towards you, you kneeled down on the ground, your arms opened for him to run to you. Other parents and children muttered a little louder.
"Gods, such a troublesome family."
"Like mother, like son."
"Ah, that's his mother? Could've fooled me."
"How uncivilised."
You nuzzled into Shiro's hair and pressed a lingering kiss there, feeling overwhelmed and timid under the scrutinizing gazes of the others. Their words stung, not only because they criticised you, but also your child who you had tried so hard to rise the way he is and to keep his mind open to things that might be different.
"Miss (l/n)." You heard the teacher murmur as she crouched down in front of you. Her expression was filled with compassion as she brought up her hand to squeeze your shoulder. It was only then that you realised how powerful the words of other parents hurt you as you looked at her through unshed tears. "We have a situation between two fathers in Shiro's classroom and while we don't know the history between them, their fight turned quite vicious and a danger to the children. Until now, we aren't sure whose parent one father is, but Shiro's father isn't innocent either." The teacher tried to explain, her voice a little shaky. You didn't know her per se, probably a substitute teacher to help with the event for fathers to introduce their jobs.
Slowly you got up again, straightening your expression as you held your son close to you, his arms wrapped around your leg. "What happened?" You asked, your gaze flicking to the classroom.
The sub teacher straightened up as well, dusting off her thighs of invisible flint. "I'm not really sure what started it, but your partner and another dad made some comments towards each other before sir Trafalgar started to taunt the other man more and more. Apparently they knew each other already before today, I guess? The other man suddenly started throwing things and now we're in this situation. For the safety of the children, everyone was evacuated from the room itself. Some dads had tried to come between the other two, but Shelly's father got a fist in his nose and Sir Cavendish had to be restrained when a bar of chalk hit the back of his head."
A deep sigh flew from your lips as your gaze flicked to the aforementioned man, feeling sorry for him, but also knowing that behind the façade of his vanity there is a man who'd tear down anyone who insults him. "I'm not really sure how to help though.." You murmured, looking back at the teacher. "If no other men could stop them, how am I supposed to do so?"
This made the teacher pause, suddenly realising how unrealistic the ask actually was. "But I don't really want to involve the police either." She murmured softly. A chair crashed into the door from the inside, throwing open the door of the classroom. "Damage has to be reimbursed, however." You heard her say softly, making you realise today truly wasn't your day as Law quickly stumbled out of the room, followed by the redhead you had almost walked into this morning.
The other parents were suddenly on high alert again as the two troublemakers had gotten out of the classroom. Children were hid away behind legs or turned around to not see the blood coming from headwounds among the two men. The headmaster, accompanied by two security guys stepped up, however, each man taking hold of Law's and the man called 'Eustass'' arm. Slight disappointment was the first thing you felt regarding the situation with Law, before you noticed a blackened eye and the flinch when he was grabbed by his upper arm. Your hand cupped the back of Shiro's head and hold him to you before he would run up to his father.
"Mom?" Shiro asked instead, tilting his head back to look up at you.
You stroked his hair lovingly, looking down at him for a moment. "It's okay, love. Dad just has to go in time-out." Shiro hummed softly in acknowledgement before he looked at Law again.

By the time Law and Eustass Kid were let go with several warnings, a written bill for the damages, and contact information for the lawyer, schooltime was over and you were waiting for Law with Shiro standing in front of you, your arms around his shoulders as you pressed a kiss to his temple before you straightened up. The other parents had already dispersed, taking their children home for an eventful afternoon or nice dinner. Eustass glared at you and Shiro as you squared your shoulders, looking the huge man in the eye for just a moment before your gaze flicked to Law again. Your brows furrowed at the man who glared at the redhead from the corner of his eyes before he met your gaze. There seems to be a flicker of guilt in his grey eyes as his gaze met yours and you sighed deeply, your fingers curling into Shiro's shirt to keep him close in case the other man would try something.
Instead, Kid scoffed and muttered some slander regarding your family as he stomped past you. Only when the man had gone to his car did the tension leave your body, your shoulders sagging and the tension in your jaw falling away. Law stopped in front of you, his eyes searching your face before he crouched down in front of Shiro and ruffling his black hair. "Sorry about that, Shiro-ya. It seems I made a mess of your class and your mom's day today."
Shiro looked up at you quickly before his gaze fell back to his father. "I'm sure mom will be alright. She always comes through." Your son said in full conviction and a slight grin.
Law smirked and ruffled Shiro's hair a bit rougher. "She always does, doesn't she?" He echoed the words of his son before taking the chance to peek up at you, an apologetic smile tugging on the corners of his lips. "And lucky us, she always seems to forgive either of us, right?"
Shiro hummed softly in mock-thought. "I mean, I never do things wrong so she had never had to forgive me for something before. You however..." Shiro said, shrugging his shoulders.
"Cheeky little bast-"
"Ahem." You interrupt Law before he can finish that word, one of your brows cocking up before you turned your body slightly. "Let's go home." You said courtly, reaching down to take Shiro's hand in yours.
"Ooh, you're in trouble." Shiro whispers just before he was prompted to follow you, making Law sigh heavily, watching you go for a few steps before following after you, his hands pushed into his pockets.
