"Please Mum! Can we please, please, please!" A little avian boy screamed to his mother.
"Honey, it's raining and you're going to get sick. All your siblings are inside here in their rooms, you can play in there." she offered, hopping for once he won't be stubborn, sadly for her, that's not the case.
"Ms. Batchelor, please, we will be careful and stay in the tree house!" Another small boy with raven hair said backing up his best friend.
"Fine, go on, I won't stop you. But if you get sick I don't want to hear complaining!" The tired mother yelled as the two boys ran away in pure excitement.
The two boys booked it outside into the backyard that they played in almost every day, except now it was raining, well not really, it was only sprinkling, but either way they acted like it was the most intense downpour ever and rushed inside the tree house to snuggle inside. The tree house was old but strong, with a mattress on the inside that had a few red a white sheets on it, and a desk inside the tree house holding nothing but drawings only a kid could understand, safety scissors and a glue stick. It wasn't much but to two 7 year old boys, it was everything.
The small avian was already up the ladder and snuggled up in the sheets of the mattress, tucking his wings in an attempt to hide in the sheets. He tucked his wings in the best he could but even then some small blue feathers poked out giving his location away to his best friend.
"Grian, get out of there, I can still see you!"
"No you can't!" The avian said curling himself up even more. His best friend simply ran over and plopped himself down as well, the two now sitting beside each other.
"Mumbo, we have school tomorrow, what if we just don't go." Grian said, rolling on his back, careful not to put too much pressure on his wings, looking up at Mumbo with a smile on his face.
"You say this every Sunday, I like school, it's-" Mumbo tried to continue speaking only to get interrupted by a small shriek.
"Eww! Don't say that or I will never talk to you again, school sucks!" Grian said immediately popping up from his position on the mattress.
The two just continued arguing and talking about how Teacher Jane is 100% the worst teacher ever. They did this while the sprinkle turned into rain but never went past that. Grian's mother was inside trying her best to get her house clean, currently washing the dishes, but that proved to be difficult with four kids in the house, now five with her son's best friend there too. She put the T.V on to tune out her children who were shouting and yelling upstairs. Her show was interrupted when her phone began to ring. Startled, she dried her hands and picked her phone up from off the counter.
"Yes? Who is this?"
"I wouldn't stay here if I were you, you and the rest of you filthy animals should not be here, this is your first warning." The anonymous voice said before hanging up, this has happened before, most people here still don't really accept hybrids still. It is alway just a prank call or an insult or some stupid comment. Her and her husband are both avians, her children were avians, and just because the community they come from is very diverse does not mean there is no hate. Just because the odds were with her, does not mean that these calls didn't always scare the poor mother. She cared for her kids' health and their safety.
The two boys in the tree house were giggling and arm wrestling on the floor trying to get one another to give up so they could declare themselves champion. Sadly Grian rarely won but when he did it was always a massive victory, at least in his book. Today was not his day though and as usual, Mumbo won.
