Chapter Seven
__The weight of Prom's words hung heavy in the air, a suffocating cloud that threatened to drown Gemini in a sea of doubt and confusion. Since that pivotal conversation, he had retreated into a shell of silence, desperately trying to mend his fractured friendship with Prom while simultaneously grappling with his burgeoning feelings for Fourth. Days bled into weeks, each one an echo of the last, filled with a strange emptiness that amplified Prom's absence.
Gemini found himself avoiding Fourth's gaze, their usual banter replaced by awkward silences that felt like an invisible chasm between them. Whenever they passed each other in the hallways, their shoulders would brush, but the air crackled with unspoken tension, leaving Gemini feeling more isolated than ever. This distance was palpable, a physical manifestation of the emotional turmoil raging within him. Even their friends had noticed the shift. Ford, ever observant, raised a questioning eyebrow, while Winny, overflowing with his usual boisterous energy, tried to bridge the gap with playful remarks. But each attempt only elicited a strained smile from Gemini, a mask he wore to hide his turmoil.
Meanwhile, Fourth remained blissfully unaware of the storm brewing around him. He was still his usual bubbly self, laughter ringing through classrooms like music, his smile brightening even the dreariest of days. For Gemini, however, Fourth's joy became a painful reminder of his own inner chaos. A pang of envy twisted in his gut whenever he heard Fourth laugh-a sound he longed to elicit once more, but now felt completely out of reach.
The situation gnawed at him relentlessly, an ache in his chest that deepened with each passing day. He felt as if he were losing a part of himself, buried under the weight of Prom's expectations and his own internal conflict. It wasn't until one evening, overwhelmed by silence, that he finally confided in Winny. Sitting on the edge of his bed, he poured out his heart about the conversation with Prom-the confusion, the guilt that shadowed his every thought like a dark cloud.
Winny listened patiently, concern etching lines across his brow. When Gemini finished, Winny scoffed, disbelief coloring his voice. "Is he insane?" he exclaimed, shaking his head. "It's like he's trying to control you, Gem. And you're just letting him?"
A surge of anger flared within Gemini, but it was swiftly extinguished by a wave of sadness. Winny was right, and the truth cut deeper than he expected. Prom's behavior had become increasingly manipulative, yet Gemini remained ensnared in a web of guilt and fear, struggling to see things clearly. His desperate attempts to please Prom, to prove his loyalty, had led him down a path of confusion and self-neglect.
Their conversation drifted from Prom to Fourth, the unintentional focus causing Gemini's heart to race. Winny pointed out that even Fourth was confused by Gemini's actions. Knowing Fourth, he would likely remain in his own world until Gemini found the courage to reach out. Winny, listening intently, couldn't help but notice the way Gemini's words overflowed with admiration for Fourth. "You've been friends with Prom for years," he said, his tone turning serious. "But you've never once called him cute or complimented him. Yet you shower Fourth with praise, calling him adorable and making up nicknames for him. Don't you think that says something?"
Gemini chuckled nervously, brushing off Winny's words as if they were mere dust. "That's impossible," he muttered, his voice barely a whisper, the denial lingering on his lips like a bitter taste.
"Whatever you say, bud," Winny replied with a shrug, knowing he couldn't force Gemini to confront his feelings. He hoped to plant a seed of doubt, one that might grow into clarity.
That night, as Gemini lay in bed, the silence of his room echoed with the weight of his own denial. He tried to push thoughts of Fourth away, but they returned with a vengeance, each recollection a vivid reminder of what he truly felt. Fourth's laughter, his smile, his kind eyes filled Gemini's mind, creating a persistent echo that refused to be silenced.
