Chapter 2 : The Woman in the Shadows
The road leading to the woman's house was narrow and winding, flanked by dense trees that cast eerie shadows. As the family approached her old, decaying home, a sense of foreboding filled the air. Neha clutched Aryan's hand tightly, while Ravi's heart raced with a mix of hope and fear.
The woman who opened the door was old, with piercing eyes that seemed to look straight through them. She invited them inside without a word, gesturing for them to sit in a dimly lit room cluttered with strange objects.
"Why have you come to me?" the woman finally spoke in a raspy voice.
Ravi hesitated but explained his family's endless cycle of misfortune. The woman listened silently, her eyes never leaving his. After a long pause, she stood up and retrieved an ancient book from a shelf. As she opened it, the room seemed to grow colder.
"This is not ordinary bad luck," she whispered. "Your family is cursed."
A cold chill ran down Ravi's spine. "Cursed? What do you mean?"
The woman leaned in closer. "There is an ancient spirit bound to your family. It feeds on your misfortune and despair. Until you confront it, your life will continue to spiral downward."
Neha gasped, and Aryan looked up at his parents, sensing their fear. "How do we stop it?" Ravi asked, his voice shaking.
The woman gave him a cryptic smile. "You must break the cycle. But beware—the spirit will not let go easily. It thrives on your suffering, and the closer you come to defeating it, the stronger it will fight back."
She handed them a small, rusted key. "This will lead you to answers. But use it wisely, for it opens a door that should never be opened unless you are truly ready."
Confused and terrified, Ravi and his family left the woman's house, the key burning in Ravi's pocket like a heavy weight. Little did they know, the nightmare was only just beginning.
