Worst day of Amelia

Amelia's Point of view:

The day after the Teacher’s Day chaos, everything seemed to return to normal—well, almost. As the school bell rang to start the day, the teacher walked in, her smile wide as she asked, “So, how was it yesterday, kids? Did the tenth-graders make good teachers?”

There was a half-hearted chorus of "Yeah, they were good," but honestly, I wasn’t paying much attention. While the teacher droned on about something I didn’t care much for, I found myself glancing over at the boys’ side of the room. My eyes naturally drifted towards Samuel, and to my surprise, he was staring right back at me.

I quickly looked away, pretending like I hadn’t noticed, but the uneasiness started creeping in. Why was he staring at me? And why did it feel so unnerving? I kept catching him glancing at me throughout the lecture, and it was driving me insane. By the time the break rolled around, I had enough.

I marched straight up to him, frustration boiling over. “Are you out of your mind, Samuel? Why do you keep staring at me like some zoned-out idiot?” My voice was sharp, almost louder than I intended.

Samuel just leaned back, crossing his arms over his chest with that same irritating smirk. “Nothing,” he replied casually, “just thinking about how God made you.”

I blinked, momentarily stunned. Did he just—? And then he had the nerve to wink. A wink!

Rolling my eyes, I shot back, “So now you’re trying to flirt with me, huh?” (shocked)

Samuel chuckled, shaking his head, “Nope. I just realized you’re the first girl I’ve ever really talked to.”

I stared at him, confused and mildly disgusted. “What?”

He smiled lazily. “Lucky you,” he muttered before turning and walking away, leaving me standing there, baffled and more than a little weirded out.

I stormed back to my friends, muttering to myself about how weird boys could be. Of course, Mia and Katherine weren’t going to let it slide. As soon as I sat down, Mia gave me a sly grin, her voice dripping with mock innocence. “So, Amelia, what was that all about? You and Samuel, huh?”

The others chimed in immediately, Raelyn’s teasing tone making me roll my eyes. “Do you like him? Hmm? A little love story brewing?”

I shot them all a look. “Seriously, you think I’d fall for Samuel? He’s not even my type!”

They just exchanged knowing glances and giggled. “We can see it in your eyes, girl.”

“Yeah, right,” I huffed. “He’s the opposite of what I like. And for the record, I don’t have crushes on real people. Fictional boys, thank you very much.”

The day dragged on, and by the time I got home, I was exhausted. I had barely flopped down on my bed when my mom came into my room. “Amelia, get up. We’re having lunch at a friend’s house today.”

I groaned. “Mom, no! I’m too tired. Can’t we skip it?”

But she wasn’t having any of it. “No excuses. Get dressed, we’re leaving in half an hour.”

Great, just what I needed—another social gathering with strangers. Anxiety twisted in my stomach. Meeting new people was never fun for me. I messaged Raelyn to vent, but she didn’t help. She sent back a teasing reply: *Maybe you’ll run into Samuel there!* I instantly regretted telling her.

Soon enough, we arrived at this massive, intimidating house that screamed expensive. I felt out of place as we stepped inside. Thomas’s mom greeted us, her warm smile putting me at ease for a second. “Oh, you look beautiful, Amelia!”

I smiled politely, mumbling a “Thank you, auntie.” But just as I was starting to relax, I heard a voice shouting from another room, “Who is it, Mom?” And when he appeared, I almost laughed out loud. Thomas, Theo’s best friend, came barreling into the room, looking as disheveled as ever in a plain white t-shirt and black trousers.

My stomach twisted again—Thomas, of all people. He had no idea about Raelyn Having crush on his best friend....being Theo’s best friend made everything feel more awkward.

The lunch dragged on, with polite questions from the adults about school and grades, while Thomas and I sat there, barely speaking. Every now and then, I caught him stealing glances at me, and I’d awkwardly look away, trying to focus on my food. By the end of the meal, I was itching to leave.

The next day at school, I felt off. My head was spinning, wondering why on earth I had gone to Thomas’ house. Now he knew me, and worse, I knew him. It felt like some unspoken connection had formed, one that I wasn’t ready for.

During the break, Thomas came over to me, holding something in his hand. “Amelia,” he said in a low, almost indifferent voice, “you left this at my house yesterday.”

I looked down to see him holding out my bracelet. I hadn’t even realized I’d lost it.

My friends gasped in unison, their eyes wide with disbelief. I took the bracelet from him, offering a quiet “Thanks” before he walked off. The second he was out of earshot, Mia and Katherine pounced.

“So, you went to *Thomas’* house? And forgot your bracelet? Spill!”

I waved them off. “It wasn’t a big deal. We didn’t even talk much.”

They weren’t convinced, but I didn’t care. I wasn’t interested in Thomas or any other boy for that matter. I had enough drama with Samuel and his random flirting.

But then, just as I thought the teasing was over, Samuel sauntered over, a lazy grin on his face. “Hey, crackhead.”

I glared at him, unamused. “What do you want?”

He shrugged, leaning in closer. “Nothing, just seeing how my favorite girl is doing.”

I crossed my arms, not willing to play his games. “You’re not my favorite anything. So, leave me alone.”

Samuel just chuckled, but I could tell he wasn’t going to push it today. He gave me a wink and walked off. This guy was seriously getting on my nerves.

The rest of the day passed in a blur, but as I was packing up to leave, Thomas approached me again, this time with a more serious expression. “Amelia, can you come to my house after school? There’s something important I need to talk to you about.”

I blinked, caught off guard. “Why?”

“Your mom told me to ask you,” he explained, his voice even. “It’s... family stuff.”

Everyone around me was staring again, their curiosity practically bursting. I sighed. “Okay, I’ll come.”

As he walked away, Mia gave me that sly grin again. “Family stuff, huh? Sure, Amelia, sure.”

I rolled my eyes, already exhausted by the endless teasing. Whatever Thomas wanted, I hoped it was quick, because I wasn’t sure how much more of this I could handle.
