Sylvie's POV

I was basically shaking when i got back to school, having chugged half my coffee on the way there. Luckily, I made it on time and wouldn't be late for Biology. I sat down at one of the empty tables, dropping my bag on the floor by my chair. Most of the other tables were full except for the one in the back where I always sat.

Kelsey walked in and sat next to me, eyes stuck to her phone as usual.

"Hey Kels." My fingers tapped against the table. She barely looked up at me for a second before nodding. "Wanna hear something crazy."

I wasn't sure if I should tell her, but she was the only friend I had, and I had to tell someone.

"Sure whatever."

"So uhm..." I moved my chair slightly closer to hers. "You know how I'm totally obsessed with Paramore." She nodded.

"Yeah, it's literally all you talk about." She rolled her eyes. Well all you talk about is boys so- never mind.

"Uhm- yeah. Well, i met the lead singer at that cafe down the street." Kelsey let out a laugh.

"No way. That's sick." I nodded, smiling. I was happy that she seemed to care at least a little bit.

"Yeah, she signed my hoodie." I moved my hair in front of my shoulders so she could see the writing on the back. She looked at it briefly before looking back to her phone.

"She was so flirting with you." She snickered. My face goes red.

"What!? What does it say?"

"Nothing. Did it seem like she was flirting though?"

"Kels, that's stupid. Why would she flirt with me."

"Oh my god shut up. I hate when you do that." She groaned, putting her phone down. Wow. She must be serious. "You're literally prettier than every girl at this school. I hate when you do that whole 'nobody likes me' act."

I roll my eyes. "I've literally never been asked out. I haven't even had my first kiss. I think it's fair to say most people aren't attracted to me."

"People don't like you because you're a freak." She shrugs. "Not because you're ugly."

"Okay well... my point still stands. Hayley Williams was not flirting with me."

Kelsey picked her phone back up and started typing again, letting out a sigh. "Whatever."

- After School -

After my last few classes of the day, I walked home like I usually did. It started to rain, which I would usually be happy about on a day that I had brought a jacket. I'd have to wash my hoodie again when I got home.

My mom's car wasn't in the driveway, which meant she was still at work. It had just been me and her since I was really little, so I's have the house to myself. Thank God.

I unlocked the front door and opened it, immediately dropping my bag by the couch. I pull my sweater over my head, walking to the room connected to the kitchen where the washing machine is. The house is cold, and I was only wearing a sports bra underneath, so i started the laundry as quickly as I could and sped to my room to put a shirt on.

My room was pretty small, but I liked it that way. It was cluttered and crowded with clothes, blankets, stuffed animals, and anything else I could find to fill the space with. There were posters and pictures covering the walls, along with a few blankets and tapestries my mom had made for me.

I walked to my dresser and took out a t-shirt, pulling it over my head. It was light gray and had been signed by all the girls in my band class from middle school. I stopped taking band once I became a freshman, and I sort of regretted it. Maybe I'd have more friends if i didn't. I was sick of playing trumpet though.

After I put on dry clothes, I walked back out to the living room to grab my journal out of my bag. Telling Kelsey about my encounter at the cafe hadn't fully satiated my desire to talk about it, and I didn't feel like telling my mom because she would ask a million questions. Namely: "Why were you skipping class again?"

I grabbed my favorite pen and curled up on the couch, opening my journal to a blank page.

Friday October 17th 2008

Something totally insane happened today. Like so crazy it's not even real. I was skipping History (as usual) to go get coffee and THE Hayley Williams was at the sketchy cafe down the street from the school. I was nervous and definitely embarrassed myself, but she signed the hoodie me and my mom made. Oh shoot, i just realized I forgot to read what it said before I put it in the wash. Oh well. Kelsey said she was flirting with me, which definitely isn't true? What would she want with a weirdo teenage girl who failed her senior year of high school. Nada. Anyways mom's home. I'll write later.

I shut my journal as my mom walked through the front door, leaning over the back of the couch.

"Hey mom." She smiled at me, looking tired.

"Hey Sylvie." She let out a sigh, walking to the kitchen. I frowned.

"How was work?"

"Tiring." She opened the fridge. "Are you okay with pizza for dinner?"

"Yeah that sounds great." I smiled, settling back on the couch and grabbing the TV remote.

My mom was a nurse, so she usually worked long hours. I was lucky that she was able to come home early today. I didn't get to spend much time with her, but we watched movies whenever she was home because she was usually too tired to do anything else.

I got up from the couch to grab a DVD from the cupboard under the TV, deciding to put on The Breakfast Club. It was my mom's favorite movie, and seeing as she'd had a hard day I thought she would appreciate it. Once the movie started she came to sit next to me on the couch, but she was asleep before we got halfway through it.

- Morning -

After the movie had ended, I'd put a blanket over my mom and went upstairs to bed. It took me hours to fall asleep, the silence drawing me back to my meeting at the cafe earlier in the day, but eventually I got too tired to stay awake.

I was woken up when sunlight came through my window, shining directly in my eyes. I groaned, covering my face with my blanket. Once I was awake, though, I was never able to go back to sleep. After a few minutes i sat up, rubbing my eyes and grabbing my phone. I had a text from Kelsey.

u shuld totes go 2 tha party tonite. gonna be lit

I roll my eyes, putting my phone down on my bed and getting up. Kelsey knew I hated parties, but she invited me every time anyway. I guess that showed she cared about me a little at least.

I went out to the kitchen to grab my sweater. The drier had been started by my mom before she went to work, so it was warm still. I pulled it out, turning it over to see the writing on the back.

Kick ass name for a kick ass chick. Rock on Sylvie!
-Hayley

I sighed, pulling it over my head and inhaling the scent of fresh laundry. How is that flirting? Kelsey is on something, jeez.

I had cereal for breakfast, and after i finished the dishes from last night I sat on the couch, hoping to find something to watch on TV. My mind drifted back to Kelsey's text. Maybe a party wouldn't be so bad.
