The room was dim, with soft golden light filtering through the heavy curtains. The day had been long, and now the night settled over what should have been a peaceful ending to a wedding—except it wasn't for either of them. Amy Rose and Sonic the Hedgehog, now officially husband and wife, had just ended a day that changed their lives forever. Neither of them wanted this, but tradition and family expectation left them with no choice.

Sonic stood by the bed, tossing his suit jacket onto a nearby chair. His lips twisted into a sarcastic smirk. Wife, he thought darkly. The word felt foreign and strange in his mind. Sure, he'd known Amy for years, but in the way one knows an old rival. Their parents had always brought them to family events, and they'd seen each other enough to argue at every single one of them. Amy was always the rule-follower, the one to tell him what not to do, and Sonic? He was the one who ignored her every chance he got.

This whole marriage was a disaster. An arrangement, written up when they were both born, designed to keep their two powerful families allied. He could still remember the shock and anger when his parents broke the news to him. Fresh out of a relationship, the last thing Sonic needed was to be tied to Amy of all people. And now we're married, he scoffed to himself.

He turned his eyes to the bathroom door. She'd been in there for a while. Typical, he thought, running a hand through his quills. Always taking her time. He needed to brush his teeth and was on the verge of storming into the bathroom when the door creaked open.

Amy stepped out, her damp hair slightly tousled, wearing a silk pajama set that clung to her in just the right places. Sonic's eyes briefly swept over her form before quickly looking away, trying to squash the unwelcome thought that she looked... well, good. Annoyingly good.

She caught his eye roll as she passed. "Patience much?" she muttered, brushing past him with a bit more force than necessary. Her annoyance was obvious, but she was just as trapped in this situation as he was.

Sonic clenched his jaw. Sure, she's easy on the eyes, but that doesn't mean she's not infuriating, he reminded himself. They'd argued as children, fought as teenagers, and now... this. He grumbled under his breath, shut the bathroom door behind him, and leaned against the counter.

On the other side, Amy sat on the bed, tugging at the edge of her silk top. She groaned inwardly, feeling the weight of it all. I'm married. To Sonic the Hedgehog. She almost wanted to scream. He was infuriating, reckless, and cocky, always acting like he was better than her. And now, after all these years, they were supposed to just... live together? Be husband and wife?

She shook her head. Chaos, I could kill my parents for this. But like Sonic, Amy had a strong sense of duty to her family. Their families came from the elite, and in their world, family obligations weren't suggestions—they were commands. No matter how much she hated this, she had to go through with it. Respect your parents, she had always been taught, even if it meant sacrificing what she wanted.

The worst part was, as much as Sonic annoyed her, there was no denying how infuriatingly handsome he was. Ugh, why does he have to look like that? she thought, frowning. His looks made things complicated. Her heart raced, sometimes against her will, when he got close. The kiss they shared at the wedding—it was nothing but a formality, a quick brush of lips for the audience, but it lingered in her mind far longer than it should have.

But she reminded herself quickly: he despised her, and she despised him. The past was full of moments where he had belittled her, teased her, and made her feel small. He wasn't the type of person she could ever see herself with. This is just a nightmare. It'll pass, she told herself as she slipped under the covers.

When Sonic came out of the bathroom a few moments later, hair slightly damp, he caught sight of Amy already tucked into the bed on her side, facing away from him. He almost laughed at the ridiculousness of it all. A husband and wife, but with a chasm between them.

He slid into bed on the opposite side, lying on his back and staring at the ceiling. Silence filled the room, tense and uncomfortable.

"Look," Sonic finally broke the silence. "I know this sucks, but let's just... get through it. We can pretend. For our families." He spoke in a low, almost tired voice.

Amy didn't turn around, but her voice was steady. "Yeah. Let's just... play the part."

Neither of them wanted this, but for now, it was their reality. A marriage neither asked for, but one they were forced to endure.

As the night wore on, both lay awake in the same bed, a marriage in name only, still enemies at heart. But little did they know, this arrangement was about to take them down a path neither could have anticipated.
