Lin Yuqi sat quietly at the table, considering Zhang Wei's proposal. As her eyes drifted from Zhang Wei to the two children beside him, a warmth spread through her chest.
She hadn't had a family in her modern life, and the idea of being part of one now, in this new life, tugged at something deep inside her.
Instant family, she thought.
Zhang Wei seemed like a good man—serious, perhaps, but responsible.
The children were adorable, and despite her doubts, this could be her chance to find the family she had always longed for.
With a small, determined smile, Lin Yuqi looked up at Zhang Wei. "I agree to marry you."
Zhang Wei's face remained stoic, but there was a flicker of relief in his eyes.
He nodded, accepting her decision with a quiet grace.
"Thank you. I'll make sure you won't regret it," he said, his voice low and serious.
Mother Xia, who had been watching the exchange with mixed emotions, leaned forward anxiously.
"But... but you can't just take her away like this," she protested. "You're not married yet. It's improper for Yuqi to go with you to your house right away."
Zhang Wei turned to Mother Xia, his expression still calm.
"We'll get the marriage certificate tomorrow, Mother Xia. That way, you can rest easy."
Mother Xia blinked in surprise but slowly nodded.
"Oh, well... I suppose that's fine."
She still looked a little reluctant but couldn't argue with the plan. "But what about the wedding banquet?"
"We'll have it here, at your house, the day after we get the certificate," Zhang Wei replied smoothly.
Lin Yuqi couldn't help but feel a bit amused at how Zhang Wei seemed to be rushing everything.
She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye. Was he really that eager to marry her?
Love at first sight? (♥ω♥*)
She smiled inwardly at the thought, though she doubted it was that simple.
Still, she had to admit—it would be nice to have a stable family in this life.
And if things didn't work out? Well, there was always divorce.
But for now, she would try her best to be good to the kids, who were undeniably cute.
Mother Xia, finally coming to terms with the arrangement, perked up, her energy returning as she thought about the upcoming wedding.
"Oh, there's so much to do! We'll need to prepare food, decorations, and—" She continued listing tasks, her voice full of excitement.
Lin Yuqi smiled softly, appreciating how Mother Xia was throwing herself into the preparations. It was nice to see her so energetic, even if the circumstances were unexpected.
As the day wound down, Mother Xia brought up the issue of sleeping arrangements for the night.
"Yuqi, why don't you sleep with me tonight?" she suggested.
"Zhang Wei and the children can sleep in your room."
Lin Yuqi agreed without hesitation, but when Zhang Wei heard this, he gave a small nod and thanked Mother Xia for the arrangement.
"I'll sleep on the floor," he added, "so the children can take the bed. I'll manage."
Before heading to bed, Lin Yuqi busied herself with one final task. She heated some powdered milk, explaining to Zhang Wei and Mother Xia that it would be good for the children's health.
