I closed the door behind me with a soft click, the chaos of the memories fading into the background.
The rush of the city outside my apartment contrasted sharply with the silence that enveloped me. I let out a long sigh, leaning against the door for a moment. Meeting Max had shaken something inside me-something i hadn't felt in a long time.
I wasn't sure how to describe the feeling that lingered. Nostalgia? Confusion? Maybe a little of both. The old memories were mingling with the present, creating a whirlwind of emotions i hadn't anticipated. But it wasn't just about Max. The evening had brought up memories of the past and made me think about the future.
I quickly changed into my comfiest loungewear and headed to the living room, my sanctuary of calm.
The warm light of the lamps cast a glow over the room, illuminating the walls adorned with framed photos, notes, and literary quotes. Writing had always been my refuge, a way to channel my emotions, but tonight, my mind was too scattered to focus.
The door to Sophie's bedroom creaked open, and my best friend emerged, her face flushed with excitement.
"So, how did it go?" Sophie asked, her eyes twinkling as she leaned against the doorframe.
I smiled, settling into the couch. "It was... interesting." i tried to keep my voice casual, but She immediately picked up on the nuance.
"Interesting? Oh, come on, Emma. You're going to have to give me more than that!" She dropped into the armchair opposite me, her expression eager.
I sighed. "Max was there with me, we went out together after so long or you can say for the first time"
Sophie's eyes widened, her jaw dropping slightly. "Max? As in the Max?"
I nodded, and Sophie's grin widened. "You can't just leave me hanging like that. What happened? Did you talk? Did it feel weird?"
"We talked," i admitted, trying to find the right words. "He... hasn't changed much. Still the same charming, confident guy. He's doing well, apparently. He's a successful businessman now-owns a bunch of startups. And he's still blogging on the side, which is impressive."
She leaned forward, her curiosity piqued. "And how did you feel about seeing him?"
I paused, feeling the weight of Sophie's question. "I don't know. It was strange. Like, part of me felt this old connection, but at the same time, I've moved on. I'm different now, and I think he is too."
Sophie studied my face, her brow furrowing. "It sounds like you're not quite sure what to do with those feelings."
I chuckled softly. "Yeah, something like that."
Sophie fell quiet for a moment, then her expression brightened again. "Well, after you left I talked to Jake in person tonight."
My eyes lit up with playful curiosity. "Jake? I know very well that He is your crush and i deliberately left you with the jake" he he.
Sophie nodded, blushing slightly. " there at the reunion, after you left we had this... nice conversation. Nothing major, just casual stuff, but it felt good, you know?"
I leaned forward, my interest piqued. "Tell me everything that you did after i left ."
She tucked her legs beneath her, settling in for the story. "Okay, so standing by the bar, and I wasn't sure if he'd even remember me from work. But then our eyes met swirling emotions in them and then he smiled, and came closer to me. We talked about our jobs-he's still working at his own company , the same place, but he's been promoted to head of design." By his bossy dominating father, uh..
