Chapter 2: (Author's pov)

Irabella gathered the dishes with practiced ease, balancing the weight of them all together as she stepped outside. The sun was dipping low in the sky, casting a warm golden hue over the fields that surrounded her home.

The river, a gentle ribbon of silver, flowed behind the house, beckoning her to come and wash the dishes. She enjoyed the serenity of the spot, it was a contrast to the chores that awaited her at home.

As she crouched by the riverbank, the cool water splashing over her fingers, she noticed a figure approaching. It was her friend, Clara, with her short, tousled hair bobbing as she walked. But today, Clara's usual lively spirit was dimmed; her light brown eyes glistened with unshed tears.

Clara: bellie!

Clara's voice trembled as she drew nearer, clutching a bundle of clothes to her chest.

Clara: I don't understand! I...

She faltered, her voice breaking. Concerned, Irabella dropped the dishes and rushed to her friend's side.

Irabella: What's wrong? What happened?

Clara sat down on the bank, tears spilling down her cheeks.

Clara: I went to the washroom, and there was... there was blood! I didn't know what it was. I thought I was hurt!

She pressed her hands to her face, her sobs echoing the confusion that churned within her. Irabella's heart raced. Blood? She had never seen such a thing outside of a wound. Her mind raced with worry.

Irabella: What do you mean by blood ?

Clara: There was so much blood, Bella...

Irabella: How's that possible, Are you hurt ?

Clara: No...

Clara said in one go, Irabella gasped. She was wondering why was her friend bleeding when she wasn't hurt, she was shocked there's no doubt, but she wanted to help her.

Clara: My mother is at field, what would she do if she found out ?

Irabella started to think deeply, her hand resting on her lips as she was still in the state of gasping.

Irabella: I don't know...

Clara: Im so scared.

Irabella: Me too...

Clara gasped Suddenly, as some more tests left her eyes.

Clara: What if...

Irabella: What ?

Clara: What if no body marries me in future because of this ?

With that Clara started to cry, Irabella couldn't see her friend crying, she really wanted to help her, but she had no idea how to.

Irabella: It's okay, Clara. It's okay!

She pulled Clara into a comforting embrace, feeling helpless. As Clara was pressed against her chest she started to think, how could she help her ? Suddenly a thought came to her mind, maybe her mother would know what's wrong with her friend.

Irabella: Let's go inside. My mother will know what to do.

Clara nodded, her small frame trembling as she wiped her tears. Irabella helped her to her feet, and they hurried back to her home. As they entered, the familiar scent of warm linen greeted them. Irabella's mother was in the front room, folding clothes and humming a tune that seemed to fill the house with warmth.

Irabella: Mama!

Irabella called, urgency lacing her voice.

Irabella: Clara needs you!
