"And that's how you secure a flawless escape."
I stared at Akari in shock as she landed. That girl just did a whole entire parkour in less than a minute, and it wasn't like anything I'd ever seen. This one was dangerous. It had bombs, traps, walls, lasers, and anything else the human brain could picture.
Her eyes were filled with thrill as she reached the end, jumping from a high wall and landing feet first on the ground in some kind of spiderman pose. She looked so different from the bubbly sweet girl I met, but god was she awesome.
She turned to me again as her sweet smile came back, "Your turn, Alicia."
The heck? My turn? What kind of superhuman monkey robot did she think I was? I could barely climb a climbing wall if that. Let alone do all those flips and tricks and slips. There was no way I would come out of that set up she had alive. And if I did come out alive, I would probably have like a hundred broken bones!
I took a step back as I let out a nervous chuckle, "You know I'd love to... but I'm sure I just heard Dimitri calling me! I gotta go!"
Akari's expression turned into confusion as she replied, "But Kid isn't at the base though?"
"Right...It was Wyatt! He needed my help testing his new invention.""Wyatt is sick in bed. He doesn't have any 'new inventions', Alicia" , Akari then paused for a moment before she looked at me as if she finally realized something, "Could it be that you're trying to avoid training?"
She caught me... Oh God... I needed an excuse. Now!
"What? No..."
" You know this is essential, Alicia. This could affect all of our futures"
I let out a sigh and sat down as I replied, annoyance was very clear in my voice, "Why is it 'essential'? I'm a hacker not an athlete and certainly not a spy"
"But you're still part of the mission, and if you get caught, everything will be over."
She did have a point. I was an important part of their plan, the plan that could basically change my whole entire life.
I got up again and went to the start. Akari pressed some buttons and the layout changed. It was a bit easier which I assumed was because I was a beginner. She began explaining what to do step by step.
The amount of times I fell was embarrassing to say the least. I had to climb a wall then jump through some hoop, land on a trampoline where I jumped up and down to gain momentum before jumping over another high wall to land on the other side.To Akari, this seemed like the easiest thing ever, but to me, this was hell. I really hated every second of this.
After falling for like the bazillion's time, I decided to take a break and sit down. I grabbed a bottle of water and drank some from it. I saw Akari coming towards me as she chuckled.
"Something funny?"
"You just remind me of Wyatt. I guess all nerdy geniuses are the same."
"How so?"
"He hates physical activity, too. One time, I took him running, and ,I kid you not, he ran out of breath after like half a mile."
Yup, that definitely sounded like me, but I obviously wasn't going to admit it. Akari sat down next to me, we stayed quiet for a few minutes before I broke the silence again, "What about Dimitri? Is he like you?"
"No... he's way better" , Akari's eyes lit up as she continued speaking as if she was describing the most beautiful star in the sky, "Kid is amazing. If you saw him training, you'd think my performance was terrible. He's fast and swift, not to mention really REALLY strong. All junior spies look up to him."
I had no doubt that what she was saying was true. After all I encountered it first hand when he helped me escape from Pixcore. However, that didn't change the fact that he was annoying and colder than the North Pole. He was heartless to say the least. I mean that's how you'd usually picture a spy but after meeting some of the people here, I realized he was mega-cold.
But who cares? I had some awesome friends here and soon enough, I'd be able to go back home again, right? I shouldn't bother myself with that block of ice.
I snapped out of my thoughts as I saw Akari get up. She extended her hand to me as she spoke with her usual bubbly smile, "Ready to continue?"I looked up at her for a moment. Her eyes shone brighter than the sun. She had the determination and strength I needed. And I was willing to do everything to be like her.
After a moment I took her hand and got up, my face mirrored her smile, "I'm ready!"
"Now that's the spirit!"
From that moment on, I was determined to prove myself here. I was going to prove how worthy I am of my position. This mission had to succeed. And I was the one who could make that happen.
