After another killer training session with Akari, I practically crawled my way back to the lab completely out of breath.
"Does this get any easier?..", I said as I tried gasping for air. I could've sworn that every training session would make me forget how to breathe.
"With Akari...never", replied Wyatt. To be fairly honest, he was the only one in this place who was probably as physically weak as me. But, boy, was he smart. From what I understood from Akari, Wyatt was the one who invented almost every piece of equipment the whole organization used, and his inventions were AMAZING!
However, Wyatt didn't look like such a genius. I mean yeah sure he wore glasses, but he was SO clumsy, and I don't believe I ever saw him with neat hair. His hair was always wild and messy, but in a good way I'd say. Looks really can be deceiving
"Soo...what did you practice today?", asked Wyatt.
"The real question is what didn't I practice today. I did it all: wall climbing, aiming, running as fast as freaking sonic, escaping laser with some gymnastics moves because 'just avoiding them' wouldn't help."
Wyatt burst out laughing as he heard me complain, "That's Akari for you."
I rolled my eyes at his words. Of course, he would laugh. He didn't have to suffer with me. I let out a sigh then looked over at his desk, "What are you working on anyway?"
"Equipment for your first mission."
My eyes practically sparkled at his words. I could barely stop myself from jumping up and down like an excited child, "Show me, Show me, Show me!"
Wyatt let out a chuckle before he pressed a button on the side of his table, the table instantly flipped revealing a belt, lipstick , and glasses. I looked at them for a moment feeling confused. These didn't look like cool spy equipment, these just looked like some accessories. I picked up the lipstick before rolling my eyes, "Haha, Wyatt, very funny."
Wyatt looked at me with pure confusion. The guy was smart sure, but he couldn't understand sarcasm if his life depended on it, "What's funny?"
I waved the lipstick in my hands as I spoke, "The fact that you're giving me some stupid accessories instead of euipment. What's this lipstick for? To kill the enemies with my lethal beauty?"
Wyatt then laughed as he understood what I was implying. He took the lipstick from my hand as he spoke, "Don't be that fast to judge me". He then pressed a hidden button at the bottom of the lipstick and it immediately extended into a long flexible stick with a taser at its end.
"This is designed specifically for escape. The stick is solid enough to support your weight, but it's also flexible enough to add momentum to your jump. The taser is in case someone tries chasing after you. It should send enough shock to knock them out but without any actual physical damage. Oh and when it's in the lisptick form, it's still very much a functional lipstick so it can blend in with your belongings."
My eyes widened as I saw him activate that stick and explain what it was. Of course, the genius wouldn't just give me anything random to use as equipment, but despite it being so impressive, it still felt a bit bland.
"But why can't I just use guns and gas masks and other cool stuff like the spies in movies?"
"Because we have to blend in" , a voice replied from behind me.
I turned around to see who it was, only to see Dimitri standing at the lab's door. I hadn't seen him in days or maybe even weeks because he was in some 'super secret mission', so I was a bit surprised seeing him stand there. He had his usual calm collected expression on his face."Oh, Kid, you're back!" Wyatt said excitedly. Despite them being polar opposites, over the past few weeks, I learned from Akari that these two were best friends, and seeing the happy smile on Wyatt's face when he saw Dimitri back safely made it very clear how much they meant to each other.
"Welcome back, Dimitri."
Dimitri looked at me for a moment then nodded, he then walked closer to us as he spoke to Wyatt, "So, what you got here, Einstein?"
Wyatt didn't seem bothered by the nickname. In fact, he just smiled as he continued showing us the other equipment.
"Of course, we have the trustworthy glasses. I've designed them to detect every single hidden trap, and of course, help you avoid lasers", Wyatt's eyes were so bright as he excitedly talked about his inventions, he looked like a little boy talking about his toy dinosaurs...God, he looked like me when I talked about computers.
"Impressive", muttered Dimitri. I think that was the only time I've ever seen him praise anyone. But who would blame him, Wyatt really was a genius.
I looked at the table again before asking," What's the belt for?"
They both looked at each other before I saw that mischievous grin appear on their face. I didn't know if I should have felt nervous or excited. And I honestly had no idea what I was about to witness.
