Chapter 4

Rhys

Emery kills it at the meeting. She has Xander and Anthony both captivated. She knows the strategic plan inside and out. When they ask questions, she has answers. She speaks without hesitation and smiles sweetly all the meanwhile.

Damn. I need to get this girl on my payroll.

I know Finn will be proud to hear how she did.

Within a half hour, Xander and Noah are signing the deal and we officially have a stronger alliance with the Providence Office than we ever have.

She made it look easy.

But I know it took a lot of work, a lot of guts. Finn, Noah, and the others have been going over this plan for over a month. It's going to be highly profitable, and although Emery is coming in at the tail-end of it, her role is crucial. She knows what she's doing, and I have to say I'm impressed at how easily she handles these guys – two of the most powerful, intimidating guys in the Office.

After the meeting, Albie walks our guests out to their cars.

Emery lets out a long, relieved breath.

"You killed it, Em!" Noah cackles, shaking her shoulder proudly. "Fuck yeah!"

"That was...nerve-racking. I definitely blacked out," she huffs a laugh.

Her cheeks are all pink and she is shaking her head, a big grin on her face. She's proud of herself. As she should be.

Noah's phone starts ringing and he quickly answers it with a frown on his face, stepping off to the side.

Emery turns her attention to me.

"Knew you had it," I raise my glass to her.

Emery clears her throat nervously. "That was intimidating."

"You kept your head on straight. Most of my guys couldn't do the same."

"Really?" she asks, wrinkling her nose.

"Hell yeah, sweetheart. You killed it."

She opens her mouth to say something, but we're interrupted when Noah walks back over, running a hand nervously through his hair.

"I hate to do this, but I have to go."

"What do you mean?" Emery frowns. "Is everything okay?"

"Sabrina needs me."

Emery's frown turns to a scowl. "Noah..."

"Em, she's all upset and shit. I have to go."

"What about me?" she cries. "How am I getting home?"

"Call a fucking car, Em. Come on. Don't be helpless."

Emery rolls her eyes with annoyance. "Fine. Go. Be careful."

Noah nods at me before darting out of the room.

"I'll drive you home," I shrug.

"You don't have to do that. It's so out of your way."

This is true. I live downtown. Emery lives with her family in Arbor Acres, a suburb about a half hour outside of the city – probably longer with traffic. But I'd rather take her home than have her sit alone waiting for a driver.
