Few, monster or human, had ever beheld the Omega Dimension since the werewolves colonized it in the 1800s, especially not after the millennia of abuse the species endured under their human oppressors, when many across the globe were forcefully turned or bred to serve the ruling powers. Only those found to be mates to the mythical beings were trusted to enter.

Presently, sixteen-year-old Liz Vandalia wished Diego, her mate, was not one of those humans. If Diego hadn't, to her mind, he wouldn't have been on an operating table in her pack's hospital. She paced up and down the hall in front of his room and peeked at the glass every so often as her heart raced in worry. Liz cursed up and down internally, blaming herself, her thoughts raging on that Diego never should have come to the Omega dimension. "I shouldn't have been so selfish." How was a human to thrive where he was blatantly vulnerable? The question of this contorted her angular features into a mask of sorrow, close to tears.

As Liz paced, Elder Vandalia, her gramps, looked upon his granddaughter with a concerned eye. The old man cursed internally when he noted that she ignored the opening of her own wounds. Her skin, a dark umber, was covered in bandages from head to toe. This did not seem to bother her as much as that much, to the Elder's thinning patience.

"Perhaps you should sit down, Liz." His voice, rough and crabby, conveyed that Elder Vandalia's worry for his granddaughter was at an all-time high. She turned her head to him. "Diego will not get better if you make yourself worse, child. Your healing factor has not fully recovered; you need to rest." Liz looked down at the old man who sat on the black chair provided to him by the hospital. His chocolate brown eyes showed immense sympathy. He knew what Liz was feeling, he cared for Diego as well. Those same feelings turned to sobering defeat when Liz carried on her frantic trot.

Silence reigned for some time. Elder Vandalia watched Liz as she watched Diego through the glass. He saw the guilt in her, and he could practically feel it tearing away at her head. It made the silence deafening.

As Liz continuously paced as a singular thought dominated her psyche. "If he had never been my mate, Diego would not be in this position. He followed me, this is all my fault..." The normally calm waters of her psyche were now the crashing and violent waves of a sea storm. "He shouldn't be...he shouldn't be here. Not if his fate is to be around someone as dangerous as me." She muttered. Her body trembled, and Liz lifted her left hand to her face. Guilt crashed against her heart; she knew all the dried blood on her hand wasn't only her own. Again, one thought stood out among all the others. If only it was not now backed by the decision Liz had come to.

"Liz, what are you thinking? What happened was that bastard's doing and that of the Lycanthro-Phage Virus, not yours..." The old man's face, wrinkled and worn by life now looked sickly ill as he recognized the look in Liz's eyes. "Please calm down now. Whatever you are thinking, it will be good for no one!" He did his best to put authority in his voice, it would have worked at some other time. It bounced off Liz at this one.

"Gramps, I am now the Alpha of the Silver Fangs pack, correct?" Elder Vandalia's face went from concern to puzzlement and back to concern. He confirmed her answer with a nod. "This means I can make any decree I wish? So long as it does not negatively affect the pack, right?" If Liz was a sea, Elder Vandalia was a doomed boat being tossed around by its waves.

"Yes."

Liz nodded. "I see. Good, that's good." The gears in her head were turning and Elder Vandalia was sure it was for all the wrong reasons. "OK, then since I have recently become the Alpha, I have an order. Mike will take Diego back to Earth." Elder Vandalia felt no surprise, just dread. He tightened his jaw as the somberly witnessed Liz seek to reinstate her previous situation; a life of loneliness where she would reluctantly fight to keep others from getting close to her under the foolish notion that it would keep them safe. Diego destroyed that, but old habits clearly refused to die easily.

Distraught, Elder Vandalia fought for a way to stop Liz. "My child, you can't possibly mean that! Diego is your mate, you love him! Added to that, he is like a brother to Mike, you can't ask him to do this!" It would hurt the boy; the old man knew and not just him. "Vincent, your brother and Mike's mate would never allow it. You may even put a rift between them!" He desperately grasped at anything he could think of to stop Liz.

"Then I'll order him to keep it quiet until it is done. If Vincent has a problem, he can blame me. Our relationship has gotten better recently, I believe he will understand... I'm sure he will." The Alpha avoided her grampa's gaze. Liz did not believe her twin would accept her decision, but still a part of what she said was true to her, their relationship recently improved. This made her sure it wouldn't sink, even without the one who helped repair it.

Elder Vandalia deflated. He knew he had exhausted all his resources. He looked up at his granddaughter weakly. "Is there anything I can say to change your mind?" He pleaded with her.

Liz shook her head. "Not this time, gramps." She herself deflated a bit when she saw him defeated. "Please, you have to understand. I am too dangerous for him, and you said it yourself, I love him. So, I should let him go for his own sake. You get it right? Right, like you once did." She pleaded with him.

Elder Vandalia sighed. "Me and your grandmother decided to break the mate bond because we were no longer in love. It is different with you, I know it, you know it. Liz, you will never be able to break the bond with Diego. That makes this worse, for both of you." Liz knew this to be true instinctively and would not try to deny it.

Still, she remained firm in her decision. "He is human. It will hurt him less. I must do this, gramps. For him. My decision is final, and I must go tell Mike." She excused herself, left her grandfather to grit his teeth in frustration and sadness, not only for the boy in the operating room, but for the grief his granddaughter would put herself through.
