Nine years had passed for Diego Ramirez since his departure from the OD, and he aimed to return permanently. He currently stood in an abandoned warehouse; his lanky, tawny form was clad in an all-black suit. Atop his egg-shaped head, Diego's hair was styled into a mullet, and it paired nicely with his stubble ridden jaw. He adjusted his red tinted spectacles, and then checked the time on his expensive looking watch. "He should be here just about now." His voice was thick with the determination that was hardened in his hazelnut eyes. The door in front of him opened, and Diego developed an easy smile when he saw who it was. A detective of the Mexico City police, Officer López. "Saludos, Sr. López. I hope everything is going to plan." The smile on the man's shaved face already told the answer, and as such relief flooded Diego's chest.
The officer crossed over to him, and they exchanged a firm handshake. "Saludos, Diego. Yes, everything went to plan. To the letter. Your tío has been exposed. All the evidence provided should effectively shut down his drug trafficking ring and expose his men." Grins spread across the faces of both men. The officer clapped Diego on the shoulders in glee. "Gracias, Diego. It is because of you that one of the greatest pieces of filth in Mexico will be behind bars! You have done this country a great service, I apologize you had to bring down your own family to do it." López's smile dropped a bit.
Diego shook his head, and he removed López's hands from his person. "No thanks necessary, officer. I did give you that information in exchange for the police not arresting me. Furthermore, I haven't considered that old dog family for some time." Diego frowned, talking of his uncle did not dredge up any warm feelings.
Officer López shook his own head. "From the sample drugs we collected, thanks in no small part to you, we concluded you made his drugs less addictive as you said, even if you had to begin development of some for him. So, thanks are necessary. Unfortunately, words are not enough, so I will pull my weight, and I will make sure your tío is held accountable for the deaths of your parents." If Diego was caught off guard, he did not show it. "They were my friends. I owe them and their boy that much. Especially because I will likely never see you again, yes?"
Diego nodded. "Yes. As per my agreement with the police, I will disappear immediately after the investigation and arrest. Any money found that my tío gave me will be used for charity." The response brought an air of despair to officer López.
"Are you certain of that? I owe your parents. I can take care of you if need be."
Diego chuckled a bit. "It is fine. I have somewhere to go, where my family is." He kept the mix of hurt and anger from his voice. He immediately covered it up with the light that came to his face. "I will be fine. I have paid the parties needed for that already. You do my parents a service by letting me disappear. I will do so, again, by way of this action." He reached into his pocket and produced a flash drive for the now flabbergasted officer. "This is what little information I could gleam from my tío of other drug traffickers." Officer López was shocked.
"You must be insane! They will not let that go unanswered." Even so, he took the drive.
Diego laughed; he held his stomach and rang. "They'll never find me! Not where I'm going. Speaking of which; I have an appointment." He checked his watch and whistled at the time.
López shook his head. "Dios mío, este niño está loco." He swore an oath. "If that is all, I believe this is goodbye. Make sure to take care of yourself, I mean it." He held out his hand, Diego shook it firmly.
"Farewell. My best to your family."
Diego waited until the officer left, then he exited the warehouse and walked across the street. A part of Diego wondered if he would miss the human world someday, but that thought would have be for a different time. For now, he had a goal to accomplish.
