Agatha Torres, 26 yrs old, is alone in her apartment room, the dim light of the window reflects the ghosts of a past that she can't chase away. She lives in America, a life that seems to have been irreparably broken a few hours earlier, during a party that should have been a moment of joy. That evening, Agatha had let go of Kyle Potter's hand, the man with whom she had shared years of love and pain, leaving him still, mortified.
Kyle, with a heavy heart, had taken a night train, determined to leave everything behind, but carrying with him a pain that he couldn't erase.

The relationship between Agatha and Kyle had slowly cracked, under the weight of the problems that Agatha could no longer manage: alcohol, mental disorders, the spiral of self-destruction into which she had fallen. Kyle, with his sensitive soul and heart of glass, had shattered in the attempt to help her, talking to her family in the hope of finding a way out. But that gesture, for Agatha, was a betrayal. During the party, while Kyle tried to calm her down with a speech of love, their bond had melted like snow in the sun. No one had opened the expensive bottle of champagne Kyle had brought, and love had slipped away, unattainable.

Months later, Agatha is still a prisoner of regret. Sitting in her armchair, she looks out the window and remembers the happiest moments with Kyle: the Chevrolet that had accompanied them through a thousand adventures, the flannel shirt he always wore, their life together in college. She sees herself in front of the dormitory, joking about that place that once was a madhouse, almost as if to prefigure her destiny. They had decorated her room together, built friendships that now seem distant. And yet, despite everything, Agatha had never been ready to say goodbye to him.

Kyle, now living in another city, can't forget her. Even as he has tried to build a new life, the photo of Agatha in his wallet constantly takes him back. During an evening in a pub in New York, one of his friends reminds him how perfect Agatha would have been as a bride, if only she hadn't been so "complicated". The pain of losing her mixes with the question that torments him: could he have saved her, instead of leaving her alone?
Years pass, but love doesn't fade. Agatha accidentally finds Kyle's mother's ring, hidden in the pocket of an old coat. That small object rekindles her memories, while Kyle, on the other side of the world, looks at her photo and thinks back to the good times, forgetting for a moment the weight of her problems. Both realize that, perhaps, they could have faced the demons that had divided them together.

But now, separated by thousands of kilometers, with lives that seem to have developed in opposite directions, they wonder if it's really too late to take back that hand they let go too soon.

"Champagne problems" is an intense and heartbreaking story that explores the fragility of human relationships, the power of regret and the possibility of redemption when all seems lost.
