Denki looked ahead on the path to see his friends. He must have lagged behind. He could hear their excited shouts echoing in the wind, as they were on the way to an ice cream shop. Denki sped up and jumped into the conversation.
"How much farther are we?" He asked, shaking the fog out of his head
"Bout' five more minutes of walking." Sero responded, checking the maps app on his phone. Denki nodded and then looked forward once more, smelling the sweet early summer air.
Various conversations were carrying on around him. From what he could tell, Bakugo was next to Kirishima at the front of the pack, yelling, as always, at Kirishima after he said Bakugo could probably make better cookies than the ones the ice cream shop had to offer. Why Bakugo felt the need to yell his cryptic thanks was beyond him. Mina was walking beside Sero, discussing what they would do after getting ice cream. Denki was now in the middle of the two pairs, dodging Bakugo's flailing arms in front of him as he rattled away insults. How was this guy the 'leader' of their group?
After the mentioned five minutes, they were faced with the glass door of the ice cream shop. Bakugo pushed in the door with confidence, and the rest followed. The bells that hung over them rattled, announcing their entrance.
Before the cashier of the shop could even greet them, Bakugo stormed over, slammed enough money for the whole group on the counter, and barked his order at the poor cashier's face. Kirishima then promptly apologized on Baguko's behalf, and placed his order. Kaminari was up next, followed by Mina and Sero. Once they had all secured their desserts, they walked over to the patio, and chose a table. Denki was the last to sit down, and he, of course, was left with the only sunny spot. He could feel his ice cream melting already. Great.
The group fell into their usual routine of chatting, or, in Bakugo's case, yelling. Somehow the topic of grades came up, a sensitive subject for Denki.
"I don't think I did super well on that last test." Mina murmured, laying her head in the palm of her hand
"Yeah, me neither." Denki commented.
"Well obviously." Sero blurted out "When have you ever done well on a test, Denki?"
"I mean, I don't have the best grades but.."
"I bet it's because you keep short-circuiting your brain with that lame quirk of yours." Bakugo sneered. That was the reason actually. Certain parts of his brain had been damaged from when he was little and couldn't control his quirk. It always bothered him a bit when people made jokes about this kind of stuff, it wasn't like he could control it.
"Nah, I think he just needs to study more," Kirishima leaned back on his chair and stretched his arms out, looking at Denki "Want me to tutor you?" He added.
"I'll be fine" Denki sighed as he said the words
"See, he needs to study more!" Mina said the words like he wasn't right there, people always talked about him like a child.
The conversation veered away from the subject soon after, much to Denki's relief. He hadn't said much more than a few words though, which was only noticed by Sero around 20 minutes later.
"You good bro? You've been pretty quiet."
"Yeah, i'm alright" He shifted in his seat uncomfortably. His ice cream had melted down his hand a bit, so he was a bit sticky.
"I'm kinda glad!" Bakugo spat out "You're always so goddamn loud, sparky"
"Hey!" Mina shouted "Don't say it to his face!" Everyone started laughing at the comment, including Denki. Though he knew it was a joke, it bothered him.
Kaminari eventually excused himself to wash his hands. He wasn't feelin' it anymore, the joking ruined the mood for him. Denki decided to text the group-chat from the bathroom and said he was leaving. And he did just that, walking alone back to the dorms.
Am I really all that annoying? He thought, am I just that stupid?
