Hunter
I got to know a little more about Maeve and the school as she gave me a tour. She's 18, like me, her dad was also a diviner so when she channeled her star at age 10 he sent her to the school and she's been here ever since. They don't operate like a regular school here, theyre not separated by grade or anything like that, not enough students. They group kids of the similar ages together, but it's more based on who works well as a team. A diviner is appointed to a group of 3 kids to watch over, train, and take on missions. Once the teacher thinks the students are ready, they 'graduate' I guess, but they stay with the same team. Since the hybrid problem has become more serious they've brought back a few teams to continue under their old teachers for safety purposes, and they weren't happy, three in particular. Elijah, 19, Fransisco, 20 and Dylan, 20. They graduated 2 years ago and were sent to California to handle the creatures down there, but got called back because of the hybrid situation. Apparently their teacher, Madeline, is a real hard-ass. Another team is made up of 3 younger students, Angel, 15, Amir, 16, and Sofia, 16. Sofia and Elijah are siblings, and Maeve warned me about their arguments. Their teacher is Asher, 24, the youngest diviner ever made into a teacher, he graduated at age 16. The head of the school, who's also very high up among the diviners is Charlie Fox, but everyone calls her Fox. Maeve says she'll want to meet with me tomorrow. Ryu is the hand to hand combat coach. He's not here very often but the students love him.
She showed me the rest of the dorms, there's a lounge area for all the students on the 3rd floor, as well as a kitchen, and a balcony. The building next door is the training center, fully stocked with dummies, weapons, and a gym. We also saw the classrooms, and teacher's offices. The last stop on our tour was the dining hall, where we ran into some people, who I assume are the guys Maeve told me about, and Kaien. I get anxious meeting new people but Maeve dragged me over to their table, "Guys I want you to meet someone, this is Hunter. She's new and she's joining Lucky's team." "Wonder how long that will last," a boy with brown messy hair laughs. "What's that's supposed to mean?" I look him dead in the eyes. Another one of the boys chimes in, "Hey don't take it the wrong way, Elijah's talking about how Kai doesn't like anyone new joining his team." He looks Hispanic, has tan skin and a sort of mullet. "Well I don't really care if he likes me, Lucas asked me to join, and I plan on sticking around." The guy laughs, "Damn she's got some fire in her, and she's pretty, if Kai doesn't want her, we'll take her." Elijah smacks him, Kaien walks over to me and puts his arm around me, "Hands off Francisco, I'm not gonna scare her away, I actually like this one. It's been me and Maeve on our own long enough." He whispers in my ear, "Keep your enemies close right?" "Bastard." I whisper back. "That's a first," a guy with a blonde buzzcut walked over. "Dylan meet Hunter, my new teammate, and friend." Kaien winked at me. Disgusting. "Hi Hunter, is this guy bothering you?" "Yes actually he is," I shake off his arm. "Kai knock it off. We were looking for you anyways, we've gotta bring Hunter by her house to pickup her stuff, and don't try to argue, Lucky's orders." "Fine, but I'm driving."
Kaien
This drive is taking a while, Woodmont huh? Then what was she doing last night in the Bronx? None of it adds up, she's hiding something. Maybe I'll find something at her house. "Have you always lived in Connecticut?" Maeve keeps trying to make small talk when she's clearly exhausted. Every time I look in the rearview her eyes are half closed. She's doing her best to be friendly though, gotta keep up the act. "Uhh no, I used to live in New York, but when my mom died I moved in with a family friend." Trying to earn pity points huh? Well you're not the only one with a dead parent, gotta do better than that Hunter. "If you live out here, what were you doing all the way in New York Last night?" I hold our eye contact in the mirror. "I was on my way to my mom's favorite restaurant. Is there a problem with that?" "What restaurant?" "Kai, what is your problem?" She's my problem Maeve. And you shouldn't be so trusting either. We both lost Jack. "It's this one, up here." Hunter points to a small house on the left. Saved by the doorbell.
