THE MARAUDERS ERA - Daisy Evans

Around mid-July we were all sitting around the dining table and having our breakfast. Lilly stopped bringing up Sev as much and only really spoke to me about him since I didn't make snide comments every five minutes under my breath. There was idle chatter as everyone ate their breakfast. However, I was in the middle of reading Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I never really had time to read when in my previous life so this was a nice difference. Suddenly there was a knock at the door and while I kept on reading everyone else stopped talking as dad got up to answer and mum went with him. 

"Hello!" I hear a cheerful voice say. Shutting out whatever else he is saying Lilly and Petunia suddenly get up from the dining room table and walk over into the living room. 

"Daisy!" my mum says getting my attention. Closing my book I look up at her questioningly. "Come on, Mr Cresswell is here" " she says as if I'm supposed to know who that is. 

Getting up I walk over to her "Who is Mr Cresswell?" I question. 

"It must be about her Hogwarts letter she's been saying someone will come and explain it all to us" my mum says as Dad introduces Lilly and Petunia to him. 

"Ah!, this is our youngest daughter Daisy" my dad introduces us as my mum and I walk over.

"Good morning Mr Cresswell," I say holding out my hand. He shakes my hand with a smile on his face. 

"Ah, good morning dear, good morning indeed" he responds I let go of his hand and walk over to the armchair in the corner sitting down. When everyone else is seated, with Mr Creswell on the other armchair opposite me and the rest of the family on the big sofa in the middle he then begins. 

"Well, let's get started then. I'm here today to discuss young Lilly here coming to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where-" Mr Cresweel was suddenly cut off by Lilly's loud squeal. 

"I can't believe I'm finally going!" Lilly exclaimed happily. 

"Lilly calm down, and let's see what Mr Cresswell has to say first" my mum says putting her arm around Lilly.

"Well, hold on, so you already know about Hogwarts? How is that?" Mr Cresswell questions suspiciously. 

"Oh, well Lilly has a friend in Spinners End named Severus he told her about it, when he realised she could do magic" My dad says explaining. 

"Oh. Oh, thank goodness. Well, this will be the easiest induction I've done then." Mr Cresswell says while laughing jovially. As they continue speaking about what will happen, and what to expect Lilly attempts to show him some magic, however, she struggles with lighting the fire for five minutes before she finally gets it, smiling brightly when she does. 

I continue reading my book ignoring what is going on around me. I never much fancied myself a reader, especially of classic literature but in the 70s it was one of the only things that entertained me. Well that and focusing on my magic. Sometimes when I'm at the beach alone I will practice making sandcastles with magic, or summoning flowers and vanishing things, i sometimes just let my magic out and see what it enjoys doing this usually ends in fireworks, and sometimes even summoning squirrels which I had no idea was possible. This would usually last a few hours until my mum or dad would shout for me to come in for dinner. 

"Wait!" I hear Petunia shout before Mr Cresswell has a chance to leave. I look up from my book unable to read with Petunia's shouting. "What about me? I mean me and Lilly were sisters how is it possible she has magic and I don't, I mean- there- there must have been some mistake isn't there?" She questions desperately. 

"I'm sorry but I'm afraid that sometimes the gene just skips generations, or sometimes it's just more prominent in one sibling than it is in the other. There is nothing I can do I'm afraid if the gene is not dominant within you, then unfortunately you're not a witch Miss Evans." Mr Cresswell explains as gently as he can.
