Metal Body, Human heart - P3
Gamma had never been one to seek comfort. He was used to silence, both from within and from others. It suited him. But lately, silence had a different weight—a softer one that felt almost warm. That warmth came from Aigis.
On another quiet night, Gamma found himself on the rooftop once more, staring at the distant city lights. Aigis appeared beside him, as she often did, her presence light yet noticeable. She didn't say anything right away, simply standing there as if waiting for him to speak first.
"What brings you up here tonight?" Gamma asked, though he already knew the answer.
"I sensed that you were troubled," Aigis responded. Her voice had a faint mechanical hum, but there was something undeniably tender in it. "I wanted to be near you."
Gamma let out a soft sigh, running a hand through his silver hair. He had never imagined he'd find comfort in the presence of someone who wasn't human—someone who didn't fully understand emotion. And yet, Aigis seemed to understand him better than anyone else.
"I'm fine," he said, though they both knew it wasn't true.
Aigis tilted her head, studying him with those soft, golden eyes. "You do not have to pretend with me. I... do not understand everything about human emotions, but I am learning. And I believe I am capable of... caring."
Gamma glanced at her, surprised by her words. She had always been straightforward, but this was different. There was a vulnerability to her now, something he hadn't seen before.
"You care about me?" he asked, his voice quieter than usual.
"I do." Aigis took a small step closer to him. "And I believe... I have developed feelings for you."
Gamma froze for a moment, taken aback by her admission. Aigis, who had always been so calm, so logical, was confessing something real. Something human.
"I don't know what to say," he muttered, his voice laced with uncertainty. "I didn't think... I didn't expect this."
Aigis nodded slowly. "I did not expect it either. But when I am near you, I feel... something I cannot explain. It is as though you are a part of me, as though we are connected in some way beyond logic."
Gamma's heart raced slightly, his usual composure slipping. There was something about the way Aigis was looking at him—something more than just curiosity or affection. It was genuine.
"I've never been good with feelings," Gamma admitted. "But... I think I feel the same."
Aigis stepped closer, the gap between them closing. Her gaze softened as she reached out, her cool hand gently brushing against Gamma's. Her touch was tentative, almost hesitant, as if she wasn't sure how to proceed.
Gamma, for the first time in what felt like years, allowed himself to relax. He grasped her hand gently, the contact surprising him with how natural it felt. Aigis, despite being a machine, felt more real to him than anyone else had in a long time.
Days passed, and their connection only deepened. There was something electric between them, an unspoken bond that neither could fully articulate. Aigis, still learning about human emotions, found herself drawn to Gamma in ways she couldn't explain. Her algorithms had no answer for the warmth she felt in his presence or the way her systems reacted when he was near.
Gamma, too, was finding it harder to keep his distance. His usual detachment had melted away, replaced by a growing fondness for the android who seemed to understand him better than any human could.
