Later that evening, after her conversation with Alan, Maria found herself still thinking about what he'd said. As much as they joked and bickered, the distance between them was taking a toll. The laughter they shared masked a deeper longing-a yearning to be closer, to weave their lives more tightly together.

It was almost midnight when Maria finally made it back home from a quick trip to the bookstore. She had meant to browse a few titles for inspiration, but she had gotten caught up in an impromptu chat with an old university friend she bumped into. By the time she returned to her small apartment, she was a bit damp from the evening rain, her feet were aching, and she was ready to crash. Still, something tugged at her thoughts.

Kicking off her shoes and making a beeline for the kettle, Maria boiled some water for tea and wrapped herself in her favorite blanket. She had always turned to journaling when things felt heavy-her own private way of working through thoughts that wouldn't leave her alone. Tonight was no different.

As the kettle whistled, she grabbed her worn-out journal from the shelf. The leather cover was cracked from years of use, filled with scribbles, sketches, and half-formed ideas. Maria took a deep breath, letting the familiar comfort of the pen in her hand calm her.

The words came easily at first-she wrote about missing Alan, about her conversation with her father the night before, and the growing weight of her career, family expectations, and love life all swirling together in one complicated mess. It felt good to let it all out, but as she wrote, she realized something else had been nagging at her mind.

As she scribbled down her thoughts, the idea popped into her head like a lightbulb flickering on.

Maria's Journal Entry:

"I love what I do, but is this job helping me or keeping me from the things that matter most? Alan and I are always juggling our lives to see each other... what if I made a change? Could I? Should I?"

She paused, the thought taking root. Alan's company her dream company had been on her mind ever since they started dating. It wasn't just any job-it was *the* job, the kind she had fantasized about for years during late-night study sessions in university and early mornings as a fresh graduate. The idea of working there had always felt like a far-off dream. But now... was it so far off?

Maria leaned back, staring at the ceiling as she thought it through. Working at Alan's company would mean being closer to him-geographically and emotionally. It would cut down the exhausting back-and-forth of long-distance, making it easier for them to build their future. And wasn't this the kind of opportunity she had been waiting for all along?

Her thoughts spiraled. She grabbed her laptop, the idea gaining momentum faster than she could control. As the machine booted up, she started making notes in her journal, outlining the benefits of applying to his company.

"Proximity to Alan. Better work-life balance. Dream company. Career growth..."

But doubts crept in too.

"What if it gets complicated working together? What if Alan thinks I'm doing this just for him, and not for myself? What if I don't get it?"

Maria chewed on her lip, torn between excitement and hesitation. This was a huge decision. The rational side of her wanted to weigh every possibility and make sure it was the right move for her career, her relationship, and her own personal growth. But her heart? It was shouting "Go for it!" louder and louder with each passing second.

She typed "job openings" into the company website, her pulse quickening as she scrolled through the listings. And then, there it was-the perfect role. It aligned with her skills, her experience, and everything she had worked for over the past year. Her breath caught in her throat.

Without thinking too much, Maria opened her CV and cover letter template, her fingers flying over the keyboard. She was in her element now-writing, selling herself with confidence, crafting the perfect pitch. Every word felt right, every reason for applying was solid. She was doing this for herself as much as for her future with Alan.

Maria's Thought Process:
"Keep it professional. Don't mention Alan. Focus on the role, the company culture, the opportunity." She mentally coached herself. "And for heaven's sake, don't jinx it by telling anyone yet!"

A mischievous smile crept across her face. Keeping this a secret was going to be tough. Alan was perceptive, and her family-even with their strictness-would no doubt start asking questions if she suddenly seemed more upbeat or distracted. The thought of pulling off a little undercover mission made her heart race in a different way. Could she do it? Keep it under wraps until-hopefully-she got the job?

She clicked "submit" before she could second-guess herself. There, it was done. No turning back.

Maria leaned back in her chair, feeling both exhilarated and slightly terrified. What had she just done? The idea had seemed so wild, so impossible an hour ago, and now-now she was one step closer to potentially changing everything.

Suddenly, her phone buzzed with a message from Alan.

Alan: "Hey, love. I was thinking... once I'm back, we should plan a weekend away. Just the two of us. You know, get away from all the chaos for a bit."

Maria grinned at her phone, her stomach doing little flips. If only he knew what chaos she was brewing behind the scenes now. But she wasn't going to tell him. Not yet. This was her little secret for now-her bold move to bring them closer together.

She texted back, unable to resist a bit of playfulness.

Maria: "Sounds amazing. Let's plan it soon. Also... I might have a surprise for you. But you'll have to wait and see. 😘"

She hit send and laughed out loud at the thought of how this might all play out. Alan would be so surprised-whether in a good way or not, she wasn't quite sure yet. But either way, it was going to be a ride.

Maria closed her laptop and snuggled back into her blanket, feeling a mix of anticipation and nervous energy humming through her veins. The rain had started again outside, a soft and steady rhythm that lulled her into a calm state. Her journal lay open beside her, and she picked up her pen one last time before bed.

Maria's Journal Entry:
"Here goes nothing. I applied. Dream company, dream job, dream guy... maybe, just maybe, everything will fall into place. But for now, it's my little secret."
