The office was abuzz with the usual Friday afternoon chatter, but Maria was lost in her own thoughts. The past few months had been a whirlwind of emotions, and Alan's recent messages had stirred something deep within her. As she worked, she found herself daydreaming about him more and more, realizing that her feelings for him had blossomed into something profound and undeniable.

As the day wound down, Maria knew she couldn't keep her feelings to herself any longer. She needed to share her realization with her closest friends, Faye and Paige, who had been her pillars of support through thick and thin. With a mixture of excitement and nerves, she sent them a message, inviting them to her favorite café for a catch-up session.

When Faye and Paige arrived, Maria greeted them with a wide, knowing smile. They could tell something significant was on her mind.

Faye: "You've got that look on your face. What's going on?"

Maria: (grinning) "You know how you both have been encouraging me to be honest about my feelings with Alan?"

Paige: "Yeah? And?"

Maria: "Well, I've come to a realization. I think... I think I'm in love with him."

Faye and Paige exchanged excited glances, barely containing their enthusiasm.

Faye: "Maria, that's amazing! We've been waiting for you to admit it. So, what's next? Have you told him yet?"

Maria: "Not yet. I've been working on a plan to make it special. I want to propose in a way that reflects our shared love for literature."

Paige: (raising an eyebrow) "A book-themed proposal? That sounds incredible. Tell us everything!"

Maria took a deep breath and began to explain her elaborate plan. She recounted her idea of using a French romance novel, "L'Amour et les Étoiles," to lead Alan to a surprise proposal, complete with a scavenger hunt-like setup.

Faye: "That sounds like a scene from a movie. I love it!"

Paige: "But wait, how are you going to pull this off? Aren't you swamped with work and the upcoming book event in New York?"

Maria's smile faltered slightly as she remembered the upcoming book event and her parents' initial objections.

Maria: "Actually, that's what I need to talk to you about. I've already asked for leave from work, and I told them it's for a book event. But, you know, I might have exaggerated a bit."

Faye: (teasingly) "Oh? What did you say?"

Maria: "I may have told them it's a major literary conference where I'll be meeting influential authors and networking. And I convinced them to let me go by promising to send them a souvenir."

Paige: (laughing) "Classic Maria. Always with the grand stories. But what about your parents? Didn't they object to you going?"

Maria sighed, recalling the conversation with her parents.

Maria: "Yes, they were initially against it. They thought it was too risky, especially with the long journey and all. I had to explain that it was crucial for my career and that I'd be back in no time. I even promised to stay in touch daily to ease their worries."

Faye: "Sounds like you had to pull out all the stops to get their blessing."

Maria: "Pretty much. But now that everything's set, I'm both excited and nervous. I just hope Alan loves the surprise."

Paige: "I'm sure he will. And the effort you're putting into this will definitely make it unforgettable."

As the conversation continued, the three friends brainstormed ways to make the proposal even more magical. They discussed every detail, from how Maria would dress to the little touches that would make the surprise perfect. The evening was filled with laughter and excitement, and Maria felt a renewed sense of confidence.

Faye: "You've got this, Maria. And remember, we'll be here cheering you on. Just make sure you call us with all the details afterward."

Paige: "Absolutely. And don't forget to take lots of pictures. We want to see every moment of your romantic adventure."

Maria: "Thank you both. Your support means the world to me. I couldn't do this without you."

As they parted ways, Maria felt a sense of relief and exhilaration. She had finally admitted her feelings and had a solid plan in place. The next step was executing her surprise proposal, and she was determined to make it as special as Alan's love had been for her.

With her friends' encouragement and her heart full of hope, Maria prepared for the next chapter of her journey-a journey that would lead her to Alan and a proposal that would be a testament to their unique love story.
