Chopper let out a groan, grabbing the floor beneath him. It was wooden, however wet, leaving his fur tangled and matted. He felt a motion beneath him as he looked up and saw Luffy's dark skin shimmering in the light. It was brighter than ever, not a cloud in sight. He let out a squeal as he saw Luffy.
"Captain!" He said excitedly, before standing up, and he felt a motion that slammed him back down. Surrounding the two was water. They were on a piece of the Sunny, adrift, with blue, shimmering sea surrounding them. He sniffed the air, and smelt nothing but the ocean's surface.
"Where are we?" Chopper asked, his tone dropped.
Luffy stared at the sea, his expression dark, "we got separated from everyone in the storm."
Chopper's ears dropped, "what?! Are they alright?"
Luffy patted him on the head, before moving his hand down to scratch behind his ear, "I'm sure wherever they are, they're fine. Our crew is tough. But we have to be tough too."
Chopper boldened his look, before nodding, "ok! Well, we just have to find them."
Luffy turned his head, and asked in a confused tone, "where would we even go?"
"I dunno."
Chopper sat down on the raft, and felt it sink for a second before floating up. He looked up at Luffy, and then his mind went back to the cold water drip, drip, dripping down his fur and the lightning crashing, the rumbling shaking the Sunny.
Chopper sniffled, thinking about the crew and the ship. Now he was trapped and stranded, him and Luffy were alone, and miles upon miles to the rest of their friends. He was small. The ocean would drain him and leave him for eels. But he looked up at Luffy. He was his captain. At times he didn't act like one, but Luffy saved him when it mattered the most. Chopper looked up at Luffy with admiration.
They sat there for a long while, the only noise coming from distant callings of birds and the crackling of water.
Chopper looked up. Gulls flying above, flapping their wings. Free. Not bound by any chains or restrictions. He sighed.
"I wish I could fly like that."
Luffy looked up and smiled, "it would be fun."
"If I could fly, I'd visit Kureha again."
"Is she still alive?"
"Don't say that!" Chopper squealed, letting out a sigh of exasperation.
"If I could fly," Luffy paused, "I'd find a place with all the best food."
Chopper turned his head, and an idea came to his head, "Luffy! You're a genius! The birds will want food! So if we follow them, we can find an island!"
Luffy's eyes sparkled as he cackled loudly, "great idea! And here I was thinking I'd have to eat you," Luffy teased.
Chopper shook his head, "eeek! Don't say that!"
Luffy laugh, "I'm just kidding. Now, I'm going to paddle. We don't have any oars, so we have to do it by hand."
Chopper hissed, "I hate touching water."
Luffy cringed, "I know, but we have to do it. Now use your strong point!"
Chopper nodded, and his body grew to be taller than Luffy, a larger person, a figure covered in fur with large antlers.
"Alright," he said in a deep voice, and his palms grabbed the water. As his fingers touched the salty brine, a feeling of pain washed over him. The salt scalded his skin and he felt all strength leave him, as if the water absorbed his energy. He pushed harder, and the ship began to move. He was about to take his hand out of the water, but he saw Luffy pushing onwards. A spark of determination filled his eyes, and he began paddling harder.
