Chopper turned his head at the figure in the fog. A god was staring down at him, with white, quartz eyes and a slick figure. He could see the grin of teeth through the fog.

"Y-you're a god?" Chopper asked in a quiet tone, looking at the figure.

"God of travelers and thieves. I'm certainly not afraid to... send a message," Hermes laughed loudly, his shrill voice echoing through the woods, causing several birds to flutter away.

Chopper pouted, "gods are real?"

He cackled again, "of course! There are a lot of us. I take it you're not from around here? I've seen deer before but none like you."

"I'm a reindeer and my name is Tony Tony Chopper," he explained.

The figure nodded, "it's a pleasure to meet you, Tony."

"Where I'm from, we go by last names."

"Fascinating."

Chopper walked closer to the figure, his hooves crunching the leaves beneath my feet, "so why are you helping me?"

"Well," the figure stepped out of the fog, a dramatic strut as he moved, "I can't resist helping such a cute creature as yourself, darling."

Hermes was a slim man, with a shaved face. He had tanned skin and marks along his body, with flowing brown hair and white eyes. He had a mischievous smirk on his face. He was wearing a toga, along with several bags filled to the brim with letters and packages. He did a bow as he stepped from the fog.

Chopper smiled, "so are those the messages you give to people?"

"Yes. It's a tiring job but one I love nonetheless."

"Job? Do other gods have jobs?"

Hermes chuckled, "we sure do, precious," the god ran a hand down one of Chopper's antlers, "I could go on and on. It's all important. My brother, Apollo, moves the sun, for example. Poseidon watches the seas. Aphrodite induces passion," Hermes moved his antler making Chopper look up and see the sly grin on his face. He booped Chopper on the nose.

Chopper held his nose, shocked at the gesture.

"Anyways, back to business. You want to beat Circe. And it won't be easy, my... deer," Hermes chuckled.

Chopper opened his mouth, and then immediately forgot what he was going to say.

"But I can help you," Hermes handed Chopper a package.

Chopper opened it, and found several roots inside.

"They're called moly, darling. It reverses the witch's magic," Hermes explained in a caring tone, but it almost sounded condescending. Chopper chalked it up to how gods just talk. They probably don't really know how to talk to mortals.

"Why are you helping me?"

"You're a cute thing, and I just love stirring things with mortals," Hermes laughed, "well, I have to be off. I'll see you around. Oh!"

Hermes pulled out a card and handed it to Chopper.

"It's a Hermes card. Write a message and who you want to send it to, burn it, and I'll get that message and send it to whoever you'd like."

"Thank you, Hermes!"

"Don't thank me, darling, you very well may die, teehee. Good luck!"

Hermes stepped back into the mist, leaving Chopper alone.

Chopper looked back into the box. The roots were still there, intertwined with each other. He picked one up, and ate it.

He felt something slide down his stomach, and he shivered for a second. A cool sensation overtook him as he felt the root take hold. A new wave of strength washed over him, leaving no fear or doubt in his mind. His body grew again into his stronger form, with long, matted fur and twirling antlers. He marched back through the woods to the castle with a bravado in his step.
