Next day,
The evening cast a warm amber glow over the city as I drove to my company’s underground training area, my hands gripping the steering wheel just a bit tighter than usual. Tonight wasn’t about business; it was personal. I’d summoned Ved and Veer here under the guise of “urgent work,” but we all knew the real reason. They’d been my best friends , but I’d hurt them, too. After everything that had happened with Mayra , I knew they’d have a thing or two to say to me. Or punch into me. But it was time to finally face them and make things right, however hard it might be.
As I pulled up to the underground training area and stepped out, I could already hear their voices echoing from inside. Ved was muttering something sarcastic, as usual, and Veer’s laugh filled the air, sharp and unapologetic. For a moment, I stopped at the door, taking in the sight of them talking, joking like we used to. A pang of regret hit me hard. I’d missed this—missed them. But now it was time to face the music.
“Ah, look who finally decided to grace us with his presence,” Ved called out as he spotted me, arms crossed, his expression a mixture of mock disdain and genuine annoyance. “You sure this ‘urgent work’ isn’t just another one of your drama scenes?”
“Careful, Ved,” Veer chimed in, a smirk playing on his lips. “If he gets emotional, he might recite a poem or some nonsense to us. Or maybe he’s here to apologize?”
They both shot each other knowing looks, and I could feel the tension underneath their humor. They weren’t going to make this easy on me.
I took a deep breath and walked toward them. “Listen, you two. I didn’t call you here to waste your time. I’m here because…well, I owe you both an apology.”
Ved rolled his eyes dramatically. “An apology? No way! Is this the same Vihaan who thought he didn’t need anyone? What did they put in your coffee, man?”
Veer laughed, shaking his head. “Guess he finally grew a conscience. Took you long enough.”
I cracked a small smile, scratching the back of my neck. “Yeah, yeah, roast me all you want. I know I messed up, alright? Not just with my Angel…but with both of you, too. I let my ego get in the way, and I pushed away the only people who ever had my back. So…I’m sorry. I was an idiot. A total, blind idiot.”
They exchanged a look, then burst out laughing.
“Oh, he admits it!” Ved practically doubled over, clutching his stomach. “Vihaan, the great, the powerful, admitting he was wrong! Somebody write this down.”
I rolled my eyes, but I couldn’t help smiling. This was exactly what I’d missed—their teasing, their banter. But I knew I still had some punches to take, and they weren’t done with me yet.
“Alright, Mr. Confession,” Veer said, cracking his knuckles. “You can say sorry all you want, but we’re not letting you off that easily.”
Ved nodded, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. “Yeah, you think you can just waltz in here and apologize, and we’ll hug it out? Nah, bro. We need a little…reminder that you’re actually serious about this.”
