As the laughter and chatter continued in the living room, I found myself inching away from the group and slipping behind a large pillar that offered me the perfect vantage point to observe without being seen. I was still bubbling with excitement from the prank I had pulled on Ved and Veer, but I couldn't shake off the feeling of anticipation that buzzed in the air. Vihaan was in the room, after all, and I couldn’t help but feel giddy every time I caught a glimpse of him.
From my hiding spot, I watched as Vihaan sat on the couch, engaged in conversation with uncle and aunty , a look of curiosity mixed with confusion crossing his handsome face every now and then as he scanned the room. I bit my lip to stifle my laughter, the suspense of my hiding spot heightening the thrill of the moment.
After about five minutes, the door swung open dramatically, and Ved and Veer made their entrance, ready to cause a scene. Ved raised his arms as if he were about to announce the end of the world. “Nahi ho sakti yeh shaadi!” he declared, his voice booming. “Because me and Vihaan are in a relationship!”
The moment those words left his mouth, I could hardly contain myself. I peeked around the pillar, and my eyes widened as Vihaan’s expression shifted from surprise to confusion. In fact, he lost his balance, literally falling off the sofa. I stifled a giggle behind my hand, trying to remain hidden, but it was hard not to laugh at the ridiculousness of the moment.
Veer, sensing the chaos he was creating, added fuel to the fire with a cheeky grin. “And just to make things even more interesting, I'm pregnant with his child!”
At this revelation, it felt like the room went silent for a second before erupting into a cacophony of reactions. Vihaan stared wide-eyed at Ved and Veer, his mouth agape, struggling to process the information. Meanwhile, I couldn’t help myself any longer; I burst out laughing, doubling over in silent mirth behind the pillar. The absurdity of it all was too much, and the sound of my laughter echoed through the room, finally breaking the spell of shock.
“Mayra!” Vihaan shouted, suddenly alert as he connected the dots, his expression morphing into one of mock indignation. “You better not be hiding back there! This is serious!”
I peeked around the pillar, my eyes dancing with mischief. “Oh, it’s serious, alright! You two really think I’d keep such big news from you?”
At this, the realization hit Ved and Veer, their faces a mix of horror and disbelief. “Wait, he's not getting married to someone else , right?” Ved asked, his voice dripping with panic.
“Oh, come on! You really think I’d keep that a secret?” I teased, enjoying every second of their distress.
Vihaan, recovering from the initial shock, shot Ved and Veer an incredulous look. “You guys are insane!” He leaned back against the couch, a laugh bubbling up despite himself. “You really thought ?”
“lioness ! Come out from there!” Ved shouted, clearly flustered. “You’re not getting away that easily!”
Realizing I was outnumbered and starting to lose my hiding advantage, I took a deep breath and bolted from behind the pillar. “You think you can catch me?” I shouted, adrenaline pumping as I dashed toward the kitchen. The last thing I heard before sprinting away was Vihaan’s voice, laughter laced with disbelief. “What kind of drama have you three started?”
As I reached the kitchen, I quickly glanced over my shoulder to see Ved and Veer in hot pursuit, their expressions a blend of playful determination and sheer disbelief. “Mayra! You’re in so much trouble!” Ved shouted, his long legs giving him an advantage.
Just then, I turned a corner and saw Vihaan moving toward me with an amused grin, realizing I had nowhere to run. He caught my gaze, and for a brief moment, it felt like time stood still. The tension shifted as he stepped in front of me, blocking my escape route.
“Oh no, you don’t,” he said, a mischievous sparkle in his eyes. “I think I’ll protect you from these two mischief-makers.”
“Are you sure you want to get in the middle of this?” I teased, glancing back at Ved and Veer, who were now attempting to strategize their approach.
Vihaan grinned, folding his arms as he faced them. “I’m not afraid of a little chaos. In fact, I thrive in it.”
“Dude, what are you doing?” Ved yelled. “Get out of the way!”
“No way! Angel is under my protection now,” Vihaan declared, raising his chin defiantly. He was clearly enjoying this, and so was I. There was something exhilarating about having him stand up for me, even in jest.
Veer, ever the strategist, tried a different tactic. “Alright, if you’re going to protect her, then you’ll just have to deal with us both!” He charged at us, a comical look of determination on his face.
“Bring it on!” Vihaan shouted, and in an instant, he and I were dodging their attempts to tackle us. I laughed hysterically, trying to keep my balance as Vihaan effortlessly maneuvered around the kitchen island, pulling me along with him.
“Who knew you’d be so good at this?” I exclaimed, my laughter ringing out as I caught a glimpse of his playful side.
“I have my moments,” he said, glancing back at me, his grin infectious. “Just don’t tell anyone about this part.”
With a sudden burst of energy, Ved and Veer lunged at us from opposite sides, and before I knew it, Vihaan scooped me up in his arms, spinning me away from their grasp. I squealed in surprise, but it only made me laugh harder.
“Okay, okay! We surrender!” Ved exclaimed dramatically, falling to the floor in mock defeat. Veer followed suit, collapsing beside him with exaggerated sighs.
Vihaan set me down, and I felt breathless from both laughter and the thrill of the chase. I turned to Vihaan, my heart racing. “That was... amazing!”
“Maybe we should make this a regular thing,” he suggested, a playful challenge in his eyes.
“Only if you promise to keep defending me,” I replied, grinning at him.
“Deal,” he said, and just like that, the atmosphere shifted. We were no longer just a mafia king and his ‘angel’ or ' venom ' ; we were friends like before , sharing laughter and mischief, building something special. Our parents were also looking at us with love and care .
As I looked at him, the warmth in his eyes made my heart flutter. It was the kind of moment that promised more fun, more laughter, and perhaps even something deeper. For now, we would revel in the chaos, and I was more than ready to see where this unexpected path would lead us.
