CHAPTER 26: HEALER
"So, you come here to seek shelter?" Amelia asked. Curtis, Winston, and Muir were now by her side, all looking at the leopard. They sat at the chairs with a table at the entrance of the cave. Earlier, they had rushed here when they sensed and smelled another beastman. They were ready to attack Harvey if she hadn’t stopped them and explained what had happened.
"Long time no see, leopard. It’s quite suspicious of you to come here alone from such a distance," Curtis said with a sarcastic smile. Another male, weaker but smart enough to keep his little female safe.
"Uh, I’m here because Muir didn’t come back from the Beast City. The leopard king’s guard asked me where he is since I was the last one he spoke to before he disappeared," Harvey explained, glancing at Muir. He wanted to apologize for bringing him along, but it was the truth.
"Guards of the leopard king?" Amelia asked, a confused expression on her face. It was strange; in her dream, Muir was also a leopard king's guard. He was the one assigned to retrieve Bai Qingqing from Curtis.
"I am one of the leopard king's guards. I work for him to complete missions, and they pay me enough," Muir explained to Amelia. She fell silent and looked at Curtis. He patted her hand, signaling that he understood her unspoken concerns.
"Muir, are you here because of the leopard king's command?" Amelia asked worriedly. If her dream had any truth, would he act the same way towards Curtis as he did in her dream?
"No, I’m actually here to follow you. At first, I just wanted to ensure that you and the snake would leave Camel’s Hump Valley. Since this leopard healer explained what happened between you and Parker, I didn’t take any action. But I began to follow you to ensure nothing bad happened to you," Muir said honestly, making her blush since he was directly stating he was here for her.
"Uh, do you plan to attack Curtis then?" she hesitantly asked, wanting to understand his motives more.
"At first, yes," he admitted, making Curtis hiss and glare at him, but Muir continued, "If he did something bad to you. As you know, before I met this snake, I saw him as my rival. I hate them. However, knowing he didn’t hurt you even slightly, I planned to return to the Beast City so you both could have your privacy..." He was cut off by Curtis.
"But you didn’t! You stalked us even when we were mating," Curtis said sarcastically, making Amelia blush even harder.
"Curtis!" she warned him. He didn’t need to say that.
"I’m not wrong, though," Curtis pouted at her.
"That..." Muir hesitated to say something. "I didn’t mean to overhear you while mating. I was just worried when I saw how mad you were, female. I apologize for what I did," he said, bowing to her. She didn’t know what to say now.
"It’s already happened... just don’t do it again, or I will be mad if it’s intentional. I hate it when someone repeats a mistake despite apologizing," she warned him. He nodded repeatedly, not wanting to upset her.
But Curtis narrowed his eyes. "So, you know how to say sorry. Why don’t you apologize to me too? You peeked at my gorgeous body without my permission," he said, but Muir didn’t even glance at him. This snake was out of his mind.
"Curtis, behave," Amelia warned, widening her eyes at him to shut him up. He immediately complied, acting as if he hadn’t done anything wrong.
Amelia looked at Harvey. "Uh, what are your plans now? Will you stay here and find shelter?" she politely asked. He was a healer and a humble beastman, deserving of respect.
