Hot.

She sat on her window seat glaring at the sun. She hated the sun, not the sun rather but the heat it brought and summer meant she had to deal with the sun for as long as the season lasted.

Summer was when the largest social season started and for the third time since her debut Arabella was once again going to decline all her invitations to tea parties and balls. Second only to the kingdom's only Princess, Arabella the only daughter of the ducal house Kingston, she was the duke's precious gem, he absolutely adored her but rumors was the one thing she had to tell her tale, the brief time society laid eyes on her was during her debut three years ago during a ball held by the duke. Those nearby had once heard the duke mention how his daughter preferred the cold to the heat so it was no wonder when she held her debut in the winter season.

Sir Marvin Kingston II, formerly a knight, after the great war he had led his troops and his Kingdom to victory. The commander, who had just been felled during a mishap in battle, was dead, as though all hope was lost with the troops already accepting defeat. Among the four lieutenants directly under the commander's order, newly appointed lieutenant Marvin Kingston swiftly took command when no one would, with keen battle sense and a foresight to predict the enemy troops' movement although impertinent he began giving orders and battle instructions, the knights desperate for their lives followed him, and a miracle no one could have expected, Sir Marvin brought down the enemy's commander who stood as the last on the battle field. That day the cry of the knights was heard all over the field. With few casualties and more wounded, the victory was something one would only prayed for.

The Crown Prince who had joined the battle 25 years ago had fought closely with Sir Marvin as a friend and comrade, was able to witness his impeccable prowess. Having saved the Prince's life on number of occasions and bringing Maginole to victory the King had awarded Sir Marvin the only ducal title in the kingdom, many years later the Crown Prince ascended the throne and their friendship never waned. For all Arabella's life all she could hear was how amazing her father was in battle and how amazing he is now from her tutors, today she just sat in her room just wanting it to rain so it wouldn't be so hot.

Knock knock

"Morning Bella, can I come in?" Serid her second brother spoke from the door although he had already turned the doorknob letting himself in, Arabella watched him with amusement in her expression

"Why bother knocking when you're already going to let yourself in?" she was met with her brother's amused expression mirroring her own

"Why because I am a gentleman, walking into a lady's room unannounced is uncouth for a man of my caliber"

Serid Kingston, a knight in training, all her brothers were knights in training wanting to follow in their father's footstep, only Arnold was on the path of taking over our father's legacy, though he hardly wanted to, he was the first child, he had no choice in the matter, he did train with his brothers earnestly, the ducal title was his father's proof of excellence, he wanted more to his name than his father's honors thus Arabella, had to also take successors class amongst her other brothers because her brothers were ready to just dump the title on the first chance they get.

"Mm so you say, what brings you over to your sickly sister's chambers this fine afternoon?" Serid's expression darkens at her statement

"There's nothing wrong with you Bella, you've been told to stop speaking about yourself like that, so what if your skin is a little bit different from the rest of us, you're very healthy and not terminally ill, the old man Malik said so himself"

Years before, just when Arabella had turned six, she began developing a strange skin condition, her already fair skin began breaking and as though it couldn't be possible, patches began forming at different intervals on her skin and paling even more than it normally should, fearing a strange illness, Sir Marvin had sent for Malik, a well renowned doctor who had helped delivered Arabella as well as her other brothers at birth, to check on her, after conducting a series of test, each proving that Arabella wasn't in any way sick, Malik gave a diagnosis, in one of his recent travels to the east, he had stumbled onto the people of the Arabians, a few had had their skin break and pale in bold patches just as Arabella had, it wasn't contagious or dangerous to ones health, the doctors around them had communicated with Malik about the issue, he said it wasn't anything strange, just a sort of allergy due to the fact that since the weather was always despondently hot and the people had to always cover up from the heat, the skin had began breaking from irritation, although, they started to show improvements after being gently introduced to the sun, while about 40% showed improvements, others just had their skin burnt, their were still more experiments going on concerning the matter, but it was very much clear that it was in no way harmful to them or the ones around them, Malik had explained this to their parents which greatly relieved them but it wasn't a matter easily brushed aside as with the way society was, Arabella was sure to be shunned if her secret was revealed, so her father began isolating her to avoid her being mistreated just because she was different. True to what Malik said, having had the breakage on larger paths of her body, from her neck to her arms and down her legs, she was covered with patches, with medications, some medicinal rub and gentle sun bathing the patches began blending and what remained of her shame was barely above her belly button and inner thighs, her arms and neck were free of her curse, so she calls them.

"Yeah, yeah mom, you can save all that for later when you've finally revealed to me what I owe your gracious presence today" she smiles brushing off the conversation

Serid stares at her for what felt like minutes trying to decipher what went on in her small head blinking his orange like spheres he inherited from their mother, the same spheres all her brothers had, she was the only one who took their father's sea blue eyes, although all of them inherited their mother's auburn hair which usually made their father jealous claiming that hardly any of them resembled him, save for her eyes another reason why he doted on her, their mom would console him saying that they may not have adopted his looks but they all took his brash personality to which they would all laugh.

"Father is calling for you, he said it was time for your sun bathing and that you should prepare for the new tutors who would be arriving today"

Arabella sighs softly before leaving her place by her window

"Well then, shall we?" she says walking up to him

He eyes her attire, she was only in her night gown, she always had complained about the heat

"If you think I'll let you leave your bedroom with what you have on then you have really lost all the screws in you head" he narrows his eyes on her to which she blows a breath at

"Then if you wouldn't mind being in the room while I change I suggest you take a seat" she says with amusement evident in her tone as she goes over to ring the bell that calls her maids who assists her in her changing, she laughs as she hears her door shutting and Serid's retreating steps.
