Just a quick note: I went through many times editing this chapter, but I don't want to shorten it and lose important content, conversation, and emotion. So, this chapter is just slightly longer than most. By roughly 150-200 words. Thank you for understanding!

Now, onto the show!

I don't feel ready to explain myself to the others in the hotel. We were able to sneak into Alastor's studio without being detected. It's a nice hiding spot while we figure out our next move.

We haven't really talked yet. I feel like a child as I sit on the counter. I keep kicking my legs back and forth while I watch Alastor pace back and forth. I'm not sure if I should break the silence or wait for him to say something. He looks like he's deep in thought. Maybe I should say something.

"So-" I'm quickly interrupted.

"That was risky, (y/n)." Alastor finally says as he stops pacing, looking at me. I can't tell if he's upset, worried, or what. He's hard to read right now.

"I was trying to make it back to the hotel." I counter. I want him to understand I was only following his directions. "There was no way I could take them on alone, so I tried to use my words to get out of the situation and back to the hotel." I continue explaining.

Alastor shakes his head. "Not that. I trusted you in that. It's why I involved you. We just didn't account for the drones carrying any tranquilizers." Alastor clarifies. But he still doesn't explain what his original statement was for.

I tilt my head, confused. "Well, I'm glad you trusted me. So, when did that stop?" I ask.

I hear him sigh, like he's getting frustrated. "That's not what I mean. I still trust you. I just..." Now I can see the emotion in his eyes. How can his eyes look so worried even when he has that smile on his face?

"Bargaining for Angel's contract was risky. Risky and unnecessary." Alastor takes a few steps, standing in front of me. I stop kicking my legs and look up at him. That worry is still in his eyes. "You know I care about you. I worry about you when you're in danger." That's where this is coming from. "I had Valentino restrained, but that moth is still an unpredictable hazard. I didn't like you being that close to him."

It's interesting to see Alastor more vocal about these feelings. He's not hiding or fighting them as much as he used to. It's a nice change. I wonder if this has to do with the simulations.

"I'm sorry." I grab his hand and hold onto it, still looking up into his eyes. "I didn't mean to make you worry. I just wanted to take advantage of the opportunity." I try to explain.

"I... understand." Alastor pauses between the two words. He seems surprised by his own words. "If it came to you, I'd do anything to protect you." He admits. "But because I worry for you, all I could think about was getting you back." He explains as I feel his hand squeeze mine.

"I know." I say softly, squeezing his hand back. "I'm back. I'm safe." I remind him, looking into his eyes.

Alastor takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly, closing his eyes and calming himself down. "I'm so glad you're here with me, safe." He opens his eyes again. I can see the sincerity in his words just by the looks he's giving me.

In the moment of silence, Alastor leans forward, keeping my hand in his and places one passionate kiss on my lips. I'm a bit surprised, but I think he just needs the reassurance that I'm actually here and I'm truly safe. Just a quick tender moment of vulnerability between the two of us that lasts for a few seconds before he pulls away.

"So, what are you going to do now that you have Angel's contract?" Alastor asks. He really is changing the subject quickly as he finally releases my hand.

Alastor takes a step back as I jump down from the counter. "Give it to him." I answer clearly. "It's his soul. He should have it."

I know Alastor always smiles, but this one seems genuine. "I didn't expect anything less." He says softly, closing his eyes and slightly shaking his head.

"Also..." I can see that I have his attention because his ear twitches. I hold my hand out. This gesture makes him confused. "I believe you owe me a contract as well." I remind him with a big silly grin on my face.

This rewards me with a small laugh and another head shake. He holds his hand in mine and the contract appears in a green glow, settling in my hand.

"You did all three favors I've asked of you." Alastor remarks. But there's something strange about how he says it.

"You don't sound pleased." I state.

"I had a different idea for your third favor. But circumstances changed and getting you back here safely was more important. I was hoping this favor would trigger your memory." Alastor shrugged. "I'm not sure if it worked, but you technically did as you were asked."

I tilt my head in confusion. "What was your plan for the last favor?"

Alastor waves a finger. "All in due time, darling." Well now I'm curious! Before I can press him with more questions he continues with a new thought.

"Well, now might be a good time to give Angel and Husk the good news, don't you think?" Alastor recommends. "I'm sure they'll have many questions for you. But maybe keep the overlord status under wraps for now." Alastor explains.

"Isn't it eventually going to be all over social media anyways?" I bring up.

"Not anymore." Alastor grins. It takes me a second to put the pieces together. But now that Velvette must answer to Alastor, he can approve or deny specific things from hitting social media. Smart. I think Alastor sees the wheels click in my head.

Alastor stays in his studio as I finally make my way to the bar on the bottom floor. I figured I'd find the two there. Angel is sitting on one of the bar stools with a drink in hand, casually talking and laughing with Husk, who's standing behind the bar just enjoying Angel's company. As much as I don't want to ruin their moment, I think they'll appreciate this.

"Hello gentlemen." I don't want to startle them, so I grab their attention with a friendly greeting. Husk moves his eyes to look at me and Angel swivels the barstool to look at me. "I have presents for both of you." I say with a smile as I hand them both a rolled-up contract, watching them unfold the paper.

"Wait, is this Husk's soul contract?!" Angel yells, surprised.

"Oops, they're backwards." I mumble, grabbing both papers and switching them with the boys.

"You have my contract?!" Both Angel and Husk yell at the same time, looking up from the contracts to me.

"No, you have your contracts." I correct them both. I can see the shock and confusion. I hold up my hand, stopping any questions from coming. "I'm sure you have questions. But there will be plenty of time for that. I say we go celebrate. Your freedom is worth celebrating, yeah?" I ask, a gentle smile on my face.

"Oh, fuck yeah!" Angel yells, standing up from the barstool, frantically looking around. He doesn't seem like he knows his next step, but he's very excited. "I... I gotta go pick out an outfit!" He yells as he starts running down the hallway. This makes both Husk and I laugh.

"Thank you, Husk." I pause. "For everything. If it weren't for you, I'd probably be dead." I reach over the bar and lightly punch his arm. "If it weren't for you, I would've never been in this predicament, to be fair!" I laugh. "But a lot of good has come from this. So, thank you for fighting for me when I wasn't willing to fight. I wanted to return the favor."

Husk walks around the bar and grabs one of my hands with both of his, just a gentle gesture of thanks. "Thank you, (y/n). For surviving."
