The scene opens on Y/n in deep focus, hunched over his messy desk in a darkened room; his eyes are completely set on the lines of code across the screen, not even hearing the far-off hum of the outside world. Every single click of the keys feels monumental as he precisely reprograms the targeting system of Mecha, the problematic program known as the Absolute Solver being in isolation. There is a slight shimmer of sweat on his brow, having worked for hours without stop. With a victorious smile, he finally wrote the last commands to remove the Absolute Solver from Mecha's system. He leaned back, satisfied, to reach under the table and detach the last bundle of wires from Mecha's core, placing them to the side.

The machine whirs to life as the blue lights flicker once more, the low hum resonating deeply. The now-activated Mecha beeps a few times, almost whirring to itself as it adjusts to its rebooted state. Y/n merely smiles in satisfaction, but his momentary celebration is disrupted when he hears a voice from the doorway.

Uzi: "Hey, what's going on-"

Y/n instinctively reaches for his weapon, pointing it towards the voice without thinking, before realizing that's just Uzi standing there with an eyebrow cocked and her hands half up in a mock defensive gesture.

Y/n: "Uzi! Ever heard of knocking? I almost blasted you!"

Uzi drops her hands and steps fully into the room, her face wearing a dancing smirk.

Uzi: "Sorry, I just wanted to check up on you. You weren't responding, so I got a little worried. Besides, you have been holed up in here for days now."

Y/n sighs, allowing the tension to ease from his shoulders. He lays the weapon aside, turning back to Mecha and making a few last adjustments to the program.

Y/n: "I've been working on this for weeks, Uzi. Give me a break. It's almost done, and then... well, perhaps I'll take a break."

Uzi folds her arms over her chest, leaning against the doorway to regard him with a narrowing of eyes.

Uzi: "Yeah, I know you've been working on Mecha nonstop, but you can't just ignore me, y'know? Working all day isn't exactly healthy."

Y/n rubs the back of his neck guiltily as he avoids her gaze altogether.

Y/n: "You're right. I should spend more time with you once I'm done here."

Uzi's glare softens, and she steps closer to him, her voice a bit softer now.

Uzi: "Good. That means a lot to me. But really... you don't have to be working this much, okay? It concerns me, how much time you spend in here and not enough time just... being around. With me."

Y/n pauses, her words catching him off guard. He shifts uncomfortably, his eyes falling back down to the screen of the computer.

Y/n: "..."

She watches him hesitate, her expression turning concerned. She lays a hand on his shoulder, grounding him.

Uzi: "...Y/n, I'm not saying you shouldn't work on what's important. But sometimes, it's okay to take a break. You know just as well as I do that it isn't good to bury yourself in work to the point of going numb."

He lets out a sigh, finally allowing the exhaustion creeping upon him for the past few days to seep in.

Y/n: "You're right. Lately... I do feel a little numb."

Uzi's grip on his shoulder tightens-silent reminders of her presence and concern.

Uzi: "That's exactly what I'm talking about, working yourself to the bone isn't good for your health. And honestly... it's not good for us."

A pang of guilt settles in Y/n's chest as he finally turns to face her, his expression softening.

Y/n: "I'm sorry, Uzi. It's just... with Cyn still out there, and the fact that she's a part of you... it's hard not to think about it.

Her eyes darken, and she takes a step back, crossing her arms again as a more serious expression settles on her face.

Uzi: "...Yeah, I get it. It isn't easy for either of us to know Cyn's still alive-still a threat. But letting it consume you isn't helping anyone. You gotta remember that.".

Y/n crosses his arms over his chest, his eyebrows furrowing in thought, and looks at her. The question had been bothering him all along now.

Y/n: "So, what's Cyn's deal, anyway? Why hasn't she tried to... you know, take control? You're asleep half of the time."

Uzi lets out a sigh, visibly struggling with the question herself. She looks to the floor, her voice quieter, almost distant.

Uzi: "Honestly... I don't entirely know. I don't think Cyn being a part of me means she has full control. That wouldn't make sense. I think she's just biding her time... waiting for the right moment to take control and do who knows what."

Y/n: "Like back at the Mecha ship..."

Uzi nods solemnly as those memories clearly resurface in her eyes. The air hung thick in the silent space between them as both fell into their thoughts.

Y/n: "I'm so sorry. what happened back there. I thought Cyn took over and. I didn't know what else to do."

Uzi lifted her head, looking at him with her eyes oozing with understanding. Her expression softened, and she gave a small, reassuring smile.

Uzi: "It's cool. I know. I would've more than likely done the same thing. I ain't mad at'cha."

Before he can get another word out, Y/n moves in and tugs her into a hug. Caught off guard, Uzi tenses up for just a second before melting into the hug and wrapping his arms around her. They stay that way, both finding an unusual amount of comfort in the warmth of the other's presence.

Uzi: "You. really needed this, huh? After all that work?"

Y/n nods, nuzzling his face into her shoulder as he lets out a tired sigh. They stay that way for a moment longer, Uzi rubbing his back soothingly.

Uzi: "You know, I'm always here for you. Whenever you need someone to talk to. or even just someone to sit with you in the silence."

Y/n pulls back a little, meeting her gaze. A sad smile crosses his lips as he falters before speaking.

Y/n: "You know... you'll probably outlive me."

Her expression changes as a mix of sadness and frustration flashes into her eyes.

Uzi: "Hey, don't talk like that. We don't know how much time either of us really has. But for now, we both exist, so let's make the most of that."

Y/n laughs, but in the humor, there's a tinge of sadness in it.

Y/n: "Funny, huh? I'm the last of humanity. When I'm gone... that's it."

Uzi shakes her head, clutches him in another hug-this time far tighter than ever before. She holds him in a way that would make it seem like she's afraid he may disappear.

Uzi: "Do not say things like that, please. I really hate hearing you talk like that."

She lets him go and looks up to him, a serious look on her face.

Uzi: "Come on. Let's do something fun. Something to cheer you up after all this work. Got any ideas?"

Y/n raises an eyebrow, taken aback by the sudden turn of tone.

Y/n: "Fun, huh? Like what?"

Uzi stepped back, crossing her arms as she smirked.

Uzi: "Well... maybe we could play some Super Smash Bros. I've been practicing, and I think I can beat you this time."

Y/n smirks, the challenge igniting a sparkle of amusement in his eyes.

Y/n: "Oh, you're on. I'd love to see you try."

They finally exit the room, allowing all the gloom and uncertainty to be left outside for a little while as they get ready for a bit of harmless competition and fun.

Night catches Y/n and Uzi laid out in the living room couch with controllers in hand as the sounds of fierce Smash Bros. battles echo from the screen. The room is filled with peals of laughter, screams of excitement, and the odd playful jab hurled between the two opponents. They've both selected their mains, and following a couple of rounds of extremely close matches, they're both fully invested in the game.

Y/n: "You really think you can beat me, huh?"

Uzi grins, eyes never leaving the screen.

Uzi: "Just you wait. I have a few tricks up my sleeve!"

The match only gets fiercer. Both of them put all of their cards into the game. In the end, though, it is Y/n who manages to land the final blow, securing the victory. He lets out his triumphant cheer, raising his arms high into the air.

Y/n: "Ha! Victory! Look's like you aren't quite there yet, Uzi."

Uzi pouts but with a playful glint in her eyes.

Uzi: "Okay, fine, you won this time. But don't get too cocky because I'll beat you one of these days!"

They both burst out in laughter, and the tension from earlier is completely gone. The world outside feels very far away, and for the first time in a long while, they feel like two regular friends who are sharing a small, happy moment.

As the night winds down, Uzi looks his way to Y/n-his expression softening.

Uzi: "Thanks, Y/n"
