The last sentence comes out in a whisper, her eyes gazing beyond me, distant as she seems to recall things. But the conversation has dragged on far too long, and my patience is thinning.
My eyes flick past the woman to the serene nature of the living room. Heidi's faint scent is clinging to the air. Albeit, she is long gone.
"Do you know where she is now?" I ask.
"She was going to report to the police; I don't know what. But if it could be of help, she said something about a murderer with white hair and an eye..." Her old voice falters, and her eyes widen as the realization hits her like a cold wave. Her next word is coarse and fear-stricken, "...patch."
Now you know me, madam. But no one prepared me for this popularity. Not as Hunter White; the CEO, but as Hunter; the white-haired man with an eyepatch.
