THE days left had quickly gone by, and now it was the summer break—Specifically, two weeks before our departure. As I lie in deep sleep, the day begins with the sun peeking over the horizon, its first light filtering through the window.
After discovering that I was the last remaining Mythirica, a hunted and endangered species, everything in my life will become more dangerous and chaotic for sure. The constant threat of danger and the realization of being the sole survivor of my kind will turn my world upside down.
Hopefully not
"Kal!" A man's voice called out to me as dawn approached, waking me from his deep slumber.
I jolted awake, gasping for breath, my heart pounding in my chest, I was sure it would rip out of my chest. My eyes darted around the room, wide and panicked, struggling to adjust to the dim light.
For a moment, I was unsure where I was, disoriented by the vivid remnants of the 'nightmare' about something I couldn't quite put my finger on, still clinging to my mind. My body was tense, covered in a light sheen of sweat, my hands clutching the blanket tightly.
What was that all about?
Beads of sweat were in my forehead, tears in the corner of my eyes failed to fall, I seemed I just woken up from a nightmare, but I hadn't at the same time, I could barely even remember what happened last night.
"Kalix?" A voice spoke coming from the door. "Something wrong? You look like you just woke up from a horrible nightmare-"
"Huh... what..." I panted, sitting up as my head snapped to the source of the voice. Seeing Simon in the doorway leaning against the door frame made me calm down a little. "Yeah.. uhm... I'm good, yeah..."
Simon raised a brow at me, clearly not buying anything that comes out of my mouth. "You sure..?"
"Yeah... mhm" I hummed, my breathing now slowly becoming calmer and controlled. "I'm... Fine. What..- What's today?" Simon took a sip of his coffee on his hand as he looked at his watch "Uh... Thursday," He answered.
"Nine days," I slowly said, his eyes beaming with happiness as I sat on the edge of my bed. "Nine days left," I whispered, the anticipation evident in my voice as I eagerly counted down the days until my departure.
"Mhm," Simon nodded, "Oh right, you better start packing, I noticed you haven't started packing yet, you're so eager you might forget to pack"
He chuckled light before turning away and started to walk away, leaving me with my thoughts and my phantom nightmare.
Suddenly a voice called from my window. "Yo!"
I flinched at the sound of the voice drawing my attention to my window where Hunter—grinning and mischief in his eyes—sat on.
"What the heck!" I exclaimed. "What the hell do you want!?"
"Hehe, you packed up yet?" Hunter asked, his eyes still beaming with mischief. "For Mystic Academy?"
"No- after fixing up my bed, I would" I rolled my eyes. "Not until you come here and barge into my room, why the hell are you here anyway?"
"Just for fun," Hunter shrugged, as he jumped inside. "Got bored this morning after being grounded, decided to sneak out."
"Why am I not surprised?" I said bluntly, standing up from the bed.
Hunter shrugged. "Dunno"
I rolled my eyes once again, a smirk tugging on my lips. "Maybe because you're easy to predict?"
