Y/n's pov

I didn't know what I did or why I did it, but I didn't want to pull away from this moment. Being close to Jax felt... comforting, in a way I hadn't expected. The tension in the air began to lift as he spoke up, breaking the silence that had settled between us. "I think we should go see the others," he suggested. I looked up at him, still processing everything that had just happened, and nodded. He offered a soft smile, one that made my heart flutter, before reluctantly letting go of me.

As he pulled away, I felt a slight chill where his warmth had been. I took a deep breath, trying to collect my scattered thoughts: the nightmare that had jolted me from sleep, the inexplicable trust I had in Jax, and that comforting hug that somehow made everything feel less daunting. "You... want me to tell the others you won't be here? Because of your nightmare and all-" Jax hesitated, looking away, his voice trailing off.

I shook my head. "No, I think I'm fine, but thanks for asking." I appreciated his concern, even if it was a little unnecessary. "No problem," he replied, his tone lighter now.

Timeskip to the next day

Surprisingly, I woke up at the sound of knocking on the door for once. "Yeah, come in," I called out, my voice still raspy from sleep. The door creaked open, and there stood Jax, wearing his usual mischievous smile. But something about his expression was softer than usual today, a hint of warmth behind the playful glint in his eyes. He closed the door behind him, shutting out the world beyond.

"Morning, y/n," he said cheerfully. "Just wanted to tell you that today's an off-day. No adventures or anything."

"Oh. Okay," I replied, trying to shake off the remnants of sleep still clinging to me.

"Yeah, so..." He hesitated for a moment, as if searching for the right words. "How you doing?"

"Uh, fine..." I admitted, feeling a bit awkward as I spoke. He seemed kind of awkward too, and it was an unusual vibe for the two of us. The atmosphere in the room was charged with an unspoken tension, and I could feel my cheeks heat slightly.

I patted the spot next to me on the bed, inviting him to sit. Jax raised an eyebrow and hesitated for a heartbeat before he finally took a seat next to me. The proximity felt different, but not in a bad way.

"I'm sorry for yesterday," we both blurted out simultaneously, which sent us into a fit of laughter, the tension finally breaking like a bubble.

"Okay, now why are you sorry?" Jax asked, tilting his head in that way that made him look extra cute. "You did nothing wrong!"

"Well, same for you!" I snapped back, a smile still playing on my lips.

"Oh, shut up," he said playfully, rolling his eyes. The light banter felt easy, familiar. For a moment, it was like we were just two friends hanging out, forgetting about the bizarre world around us.
