chapter

Celeste entered the school, blending into the busy crowd of students as she made her way down the hallway toward her locker. Her footsteps slowed as she saw two girls standing by it, engaged in animated conversation. She opened her locker, trying not to listen in, but she couldn't help overhearing when one of them turned to her and said, "Did you see the state of the bus this morning?"

For a moment, Celeste froze, her hand hovering over her books. She quickly glanced down at her wrist, where the faint word "BUS" had appeared and faded just last night. She hadn't fully understood why or how, but it was a detail she couldn't ignore. "Bus?" she repeated, feigning a casual tone. "No, what happened?"

"Some animal attacked it and the guy inside," the girl said, leaning closer with an eerie enthusiasm, clearly savoring the gossip. "The seats were shredded—like, totally ripped apart."

Celeste feigned nonchalance, a slight chill running down her spine. "Wow," she murmured. "That's... intense." She forced a small smile, then glanced at her watch. "I better get to class."

Later, in the cafeteria, Scott and Stiles settled at an empty table, leaving enough open spaces for others to join. As they walked, they spoke in low tones, discussing Scott's struggle with controlling his abilities, his dream from the night before still fresh in his mind.

       "You don't know that,"

"I don't not know it, I cant go out with Allison- I have to cancel''

"Look, you're not canceling on Allison. You can't just cancel your entire life, okay? We'll figure this out."

They were interrupted by Lydia, who appeared with a perfectly timed flick of her hair, setting her tray down next to Scott with a smirk. "Figure out what?"

"Just, uh... homework," Scott said quickly, glancing at Stiles for confirmation. The table slowly filled up with students as Celeste took a seat beside Stiles. She smiled at him as she set her tray down, and asked, "The math homework? Yeah, me too. I honestly don't understand it."

"Yeah, yeah, math," Stiles said, going along with Scott's cover story. He leaned toward Scott, muttering, "What are they doing here?"

Scott shook his head, his attention quickly shifting to Allison, who arrived and took the seat beside him, a warm smile lighting her face. "Thanks," she said as he moved his bag out of her way.
