Prologue

There was the crackling of bones. Then, a scream.

The young boy writhed on the floor, crying out in pain. Eyes wide with terror, he could only watch as his own body begun to transform, turning into something monstrous and foreign.

Unlike what most mothers should've done, his mother instead backed away from him. The crowd of people followed.

"Help..."

He screamed again. His mother shrieked in terror.

"Go, far away, you retched demon!" she hissed. "You're a horrible, ugly thing. Leave. You are not welcome."

The boy's eyes filled with tears.

"Mother—"

"GO!"

His face flushed with fury, before he let out another moan.

"Stoppp iiiit," he said, words slurring, voicing deepening, more and more animal like.

"Leave. LEAVE!"

His face contorted in fury.

And then lightning suddenly struck, tearing through the roof, right onto his mother and into her heart. She gasped, body crumbling apart, eyes rolling into the back of her head.

He gasped. He'd hated her in that moment, but it wasn't like he wanted her to die.

The remains of her fell to the floor.

The crowd stumbled away in fear. Guards surrounded him, jabbing at him with spears from all sides.

"Please," he whispered. "Please!"

The captain of the guards remained emotionless. He instead hauled him up by his collar, uncaring.

Claws formed where the boy's nails should've been. He lashed out, drawing blood. The guard gasped and dropped him.

"He's a monster. A beast! He killed her!"

Everyone backed away.

"Please... youuu... you don't understaaand..." he moaned.

And then the boy was gone, and in his place was a beast.
