The thrill of a new relationship was almost overwhelming. Y/N had been with Hyunjin for only a few weeks, yet she felt as though she’d known him forever. He had that easy charm, his laugh a melody she couldn’t get enough of, his smile always disarming her. Being with him was like stepping into a world where everything was bright and endlessly warm.
But there was a complication she hadn’t expected.
Felix, her best friend since childhood, had always been her safe haven. From late-night talks to quiet moments that needed no words, he knew her in ways no one else ever had. For years, they’d been inseparable, a friendship she thought would always remain purely platonic. But lately, his smiles lingered a little too long, his touches seemed to hold unspoken confessions, and she found herself thinking about him in ways she didn’t want to admit.
It was confusing. Here she was, newly in love with Hyunjin, yet something about Felix stirred her heart in a way she couldn’t ignore. She pushed the feelings down, desperate to keep things uncomplicated. But it was a delicate balance, and every day felt like walking a tightrope.
---A week later, Felix invited her out for coffee. It wasn’t unusual—meeting up with him was as natural as breathing. But as they sat in the familiar corner of the cozy café, surrounded by the scent of coffee and quiet chatter, something in his eyes held a gravity she hadn’t seen before.
“Y/N, there’s something I need to tell you,” he said softly, his gaze fixed on the cup between his hands.
She felt her heartbeat quicken. “What’s going on?”
He hesitated, taking a slow breath as if preparing himself. “I… I don’t want to complicate things for you, and maybe I’m an idiot for saying this, but I can’t keep it in anymore.” He looked up, eyes full of vulnerability. “I have feelings for you, Y/N. More than just friendship.”
Y/N froze, feeling like the air had been knocked out of her. She tried to ignore the way her heart skipped a beat, tried to remind herself that she was with Hyunjin now, that she was supposed to be happy.
“Felix… I don’t know what to say,” she whispered, her mind spinning. She’d always sensed something between them but had convinced herself it was nothing. Now, faced with his confession, she couldn’t deny her own feelings. There was an undeniable part of her that was drawn to him, a quiet, intense pull that was as comforting as it was terrifying.
Felix managed a small smile, but it was laced with sadness. “You don’t have to say anything. I know you’re with Hyunjin, and I’d never want to come between you two. I just… I thought you should know.”
The weight of his words lingered between them, heavy and aching. She looked away, unable to meet his gaze, afraid he’d see the turmoil in her heart. “I care about you, too,” she admitted softly, feeling a pang of guilt as she spoke. “But I… I can’t hurt Hyunjin. I can’t let this become… more.”
Felix nodded, but the sadness in his eyes was unmistakable. “I understand,” he said, though the resignation in his voice only made her heart ache more. “But I needed you to know.”
As they sat in silence, a thousand unspoken words passed between them. She could feel the weight of what could have been, of a connection so deep it left her breathless. But it was a connection she knew she had to leave unfulfilled.
